Potential seems to rise over time. Goku had his potential unlocked as a kid and it kept growing. Gohan's had his potential unlocked twice. |

potential is the best possible to achieve/the limit/the peak. but as far as i understand, saiyans dont have a limit because they keep tranforming and every transformation has its limit. Edited by Shazam, Jul 3 2015, 12:38 PM.

Prince I believe has a similar theory like your question but I don't remember the specifics. Anyways, Goku's and Vegeta's seem to have increased after Vegito's split and they had a few years to improve from their Buu arc incarnations. When Vegeta lost, he said prior no need holding back now, Gotenks came into place and he was quick to deduce that he can't beat him. I just find it odd since he was more shocked hearing that Goku lost to two blows but Gohan (who a few people still have stronger than the pure bloods even here) was downed he wasn't as surprised. I don't know but I think during Battle of Gods, the humongous gaps that were present during the Buu saga closed a lot since I have all the Saiyans around each other (minus Goten and Trunks individually). |

The characters are as powerful as the plot demands apparently. I've given up trying to rationalise it. |

Pretty much every character has unlimited or at least enormously vast potential. When someone's potential is unlocked in the DB universe, it's more like bringing out all the power their body is capable of safely handling at that point in time. That's my take on it, at least. |

yep yep, sorry, i stoled that idea from you guys I steal everybody's ideas shamefully If Vegeta got Vegito's potential, wouldn't they make it clear that Goku and Vegeta should be far stronger than Gohan post power up?
I understand, but there is still some way to formulate chain. If all hopes is lost, then i see no reasons to go against Trunks in GT being able to kick Super Omega Yi and temp stopping him and Majuub holding Super Omega back. |

The Saiyans just have an ungodly reservoir of potential for growth, don't they? I wonder what it could be that makes them so inherently tough and predisposed to acquiring huge amounts of power so quickly. Could it be an adaptive reaction to the harsh environment they lived in for so long? A certain strain of genetic code that compels them to strengthen themselves up for survival purposes? Regardless of the cause, they always seem to have the edge when it comes to gains. I remember making a topic some time back about whether the human warriors could eventually become a peer to the Super Saiyan transformation and the general consensus seemed to be "yes", but only under the proper conditions of having all of their latent potential released (including a nicely sizable bonus of power on top from Elder Kai) while having their power amplified twenty-fold by the Kaioken technique - mind you, this is basic SSJ tier we're talking about, around early Android arc Super Saiyans tops. They have to push themselves so hard just to reach that level, and yet the Saiyans eventually pass it up like it's nothing further down the road with a few trips to the RoSaT. No wonder the Saiyans, most importantly Goku, became the sole protectors of Earth by late DBZ. |
