Just as the title says, what do you think the future is? Where do you think it's going? What advancements do you see within the next Ten years?

I wouldn't be surprised if we got to the point where Consoles and PC's are one in the same and people like Sony, Nintendo won't be making hardware, but it'll be who comes out with the most gaming friendly interface, and the PC's will be portable and that'll be our Consoles.

Thoughts?

Games might eventually all be released digitally. I hope not though, I like having a physical copy of a game.

I'm on the fence about it, but I see why people don't like it. It wouldn't be so bad if Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo had some kind of trade in plan like Gamestop.

VR.... in 5 years, i think microsoft and sony will pushing their vr products.

In 5 years time, it won't be popular as the PS2 or PS4, but companies will be introducing them.

VR is logically the only way forward, in 2014 and 2015, it's nothing the developers really can do to wow us anymore.

Greetings. I will be your waifu this season.

I disagree there's plenty wow to be had this generation, which has pretty much just started. Look at how crazy Fallout 4's improvements are compared to the last game.

Graphics ain't all that but the scope of the game is. And then there's No Man's Sky which is insanely ambitious.

I reckon it'll be a while before VR is all that great it's going to take a lot of work to iron out the kinks in it, like nausea. I doubt people could play with the headsets for more than an hour or two without feeling ill. Hopefully we can have epic Tron style arcade VR games in the future...

Next gen consoles will be PC's pretty much, it's already clear Xbox is merely being morphed in to one.

I feel like next gen, Nintendo is going to die if they don't step it up. Sony isn't dumb enough to not go the PC route but Nintendo frequently release underpowered devices and rely on gimicky hardware to be different, besides nostalgia people probably won't find it cute anymore once they have upgradeable pseudo consoles to contend with.

As for what I hope happens, mobile dies as a serious gaming platform. Money whoring cancer to the industry.
"Looks like you don't have enough money to buy this upgrade...why don't you use REAL money to buy a special type of currency and pay for it! :w00t: "
"Then we'll recycle our s*** a year later and make a 'sequel' with all new micro-transactions, for people who don't like waiting"

Yay!

I predict that within 4-5 years stores will no longer be selling hard copies of video games. Instead every game will only be bought via online or pre-paid card with the game code in it. And VR will be used mostly for pr0n. ;0

PC has already gotten to the point where everything is digital and it's fine. Consoles just need to create a system like Steam where data is easily retrieved when lost or deleted. To be honest, I struggle to find room for disk based games now. So I welcome it.

I think there will be a change of attitude in terms of graphics. Developers will finally realise that trying to make the games more and more realistic is not a feasible way to make money. It's too expensive, too difficult to create and it takes too long to develop. There will be a reversal where we see more stylised games and more simple dimensions rather than realism. Because lets face it, we don't play games to emulate real life.

Further into the future I can see Star Trek style holodeck entertainment being introduced. I would personally advocate a time out feature for this so people can't get addicted and spend their whole lives there. Of course some would hack it but this should be a finable offence to deter people from doing it. I genuinely think that the danger of holo entertainment addiction is serious enough to warrant a lot of controls.

Yeah, I'll be surprised if the next generation isn't about who has the best Operating System for gaming and not what Console to get.

@Steve. I completely agree with your comments about Nintendo. They'll either have to move with the times, only make gamer...or die off, and become a memory of I wish Nintendo had changed their ways.

That's something I don't want to see.

Y'know, the Wii kind of throws a wrench in that line of reasoning. A gimmicky, underpowered console, yet it's one of the highest-selling systems of all time. The Wii U isn't doing that great, but it's more to do with marketing failures than anything else.

The NX seems like it's going to be a good step for them, and I can definitely see Nintendo staying strong throughout the next console generation, even if the NX has a gimmick.

I really hope there isn't any gimmicks with the NX. Just release a regular Console and don't put all that crap on it...they claim to cater to the hardcore fans as much as their casual audience, then they need to prove it. Make the NX's platform more towards the hardcore style and just keep the games that's focused on the casual audience.

Greetings. I will be your waifu this season.

Nintendo consoles only sell well because they're the only place you can play Nintendo games really, imagine where they'd be without banking on nostalgia. With virtually no third party support there wouldn't be much reason for people to pick the underpowered machine.

As for the Wii it offered something different the other consoles didn't have, the Wii-U not so much tons of games have game pad style companion apps so the game pad isn't all that special.

Isn't the NX a mobile platform? Not sure if that was confirmed or not.

Yeah a double, but I think this is more than worth posting.

I'm sure everyone has already seen this, but it's already happening. Sure this is only a Demo, but it's a step to Consoles and PC being the same and no longer separate.

Streaming is nothing new, it's not really that impressive. You play the game on the Xbox/remote PC or whatever, with your controller input being sent across the internet, while you're streaming a live recording of the gameplay. You better pray your connection is low latency.
I love building PCs. If you have any questions about it feel free to ask. I can help you with almost any kind of PC you'd want to build.

I know streaming isn't anything new, but it just seems Microsoft is trying to bet everyone else to the punch with merging the two together, and with talks of Microsoft possibly trying to buy out AMD...things are about to get serious. It may be just me, but I think Phil Spencer has had more of an influence than Microsoft wants to let on, because this feels like a Phil Spencer thing to me.
