Let me tell you i'm a huge fan of the original Yugioh series and all these heated debates on what duelist wins against what duelist, has got me fired up so I decide to give me angel on things. Note: This is only for the original series. I haven't watched much of any of the sequel series so I can't say anything about GX, 5DS or Zexal. Now lets get this thing started. Oh, and criticism is very much accepted. I would love to hear some different thoughts and showing of what I did wrong. Tier 1 Yami Yugi Seto Kaiba Dartz Tier 2 Joey Wheeler Rafael Tier 3 Valon Zigfried von Schroeder [that pink haired fellow from after DOMA who narrowly defeated Joey, and lost to Kaiba with some difficuly] Tier 4 Alister Yami Marik Tier 5 Yami Bakura Mai Valentine Tier 6 Normal Marik Ishtar Odion Ishtar Ishizu Ishtar Tier 7 Maximillion Pegasus Weevil Underwood Rex Raptor Tier 8 Bandit Keith Mako Tsunami |

Gonna link this one from next door @ Kaiba corp. Same general principal, just a bit more detailed. http://w11.zetaboards.com/KaibaCorp/topic/10459582/1/ And yes, Yugi is better than Kaiba and Yami. |

I didn't count Yugi since he rarely plays without Yami. How is Yami Marik over Valon and Rafeal? Rafea; beat Yami the first time, and possibly the second if he didn't give up. Joey pretty much beat Yami Marik and Valon dueled an even stronger Joey into a very close fist fight that could have just as easily gone either way. I don't consider Zigfried to be on Joey's tier. Joey was having bad draws the whole duel and still was forcing Zigfried into a corner. Joey was the better duelist, Zigfried just won because of plot imo. How is Rebecca so strong? I don't remember her being that good. DOMA Weevil and Rex would duel circles around Bandit Keith. Yami Marik should be higher than Normal Marik due to much greater Ra control and different deck structuring. |

Joey wasn't on Marik's level. Marik was toying with him the entire duel (just like he toyed with Yugi for most of their duel), and the only mistake he made was underestimating Joey's willpower. The entire rest of the duel, Joey was in the palm of Marik's hand. But I do agree with you that Rafael should at least be Marik's equal, as well as Yami Marik being above normal Marik due to his play style and better use of Ra. Zigfried was a very solid duelist, but his cards were a little OP. I wouldn't put him above Joey by much. In fact, I'd put Joey above him skill-wise. When it comes to Dartz, I don't think he was that good of a duelist. He had probably the most broken cards in the entire first series. It took deus ex machinas on top of deus ex machinas to bring him down, along with the combined might of the two best duelists. Overall, he was a monster, but if you gave him any other deck, I bet you he wouldn't be all that. |

Joey > Rafael? How come? Rafael deserves more credit than you're giving him. He was superior duelist over Valon, and he beat both the Pharaoh and nearly Kaiba, if I'm remembering that last part correctly. Then he gave the Pharaoh another fight to the death duel, so he's there. Edited by Professor Gohan, Jun 19 2015, 09:22 PM.

Rafael was able to beat an emotionally distraught Atem the first time, and almost beat an encouraged Atem the second time if he hadn't given up. I doubt Joey could do that. |

Screw that. Rafael clashed against him in two important duels. I mean, I see a more blood-thirsty Atem knocking Joey around a lot more. |

Still, DOMA Joey is OP. He almost defeated a Mai with a much stronger deck and stronger dueling spirit thanks to the Orichalcos with only 200 life points while she had all 4000 of them the moment he got serious and would have defeated her if Valon didn't save her, and then in the next duel after being very exhausted from fighting Valon he still gives her difficulty and only loses due to exhaustion. I doubt Yami Marik can handle DOMA Mai like that. Exactly. Joey was a better duelist but Zigfiried just had a much more powerful deck. I forgot how skilled Dartz but I knew he had quite a bit of plot armor type cards.
That doesn't mean Joey > Rafael? The tier lists aren't in order that just means that their AROUND the same level. I'm not saying either Joey or Rafael is the better duelist, i'm saying that if they duel it would be a close match for either of them. Yeah Rafael was on par with Yugi and Kaiba in DOMA, but by the end of the series I believe they got a clear edge over him. |

Joey did become a much more competent duelist in the Orichalcos arc, that's for sure. He handled himself much better than in Battle City. It doesn't hurt that he had Hermos. I wouldn't put him on par with Rafael, though. I have my reserves that Joey could push Atem to such heights and even have the clear win. |

Why is Yami Bakura so low? And I would think that Tournament Arc Weevil and Rex should at least surpass Pegasus, their first turn combo vs Ziegfried was pretty ridiculous |

As much as I hate to admit it, Yami Bakura was able to duel Kaiba to a draw at the beginning of the Millennium World arc. He shouldn't be lower than Wheeler, unless you're going to split this up into separate incarnations, which I think would actually be more beneficial. KEY Tier 1 Yugi (MW) Atem (MW) Kaiba (MW) Yami Bakura (MW) Dartz (note: 9/5/15, moved up from Tier 2) Tier 2 Yami Yugi (GC) Kaiba (GC) Rafael Atem (WTD) Kaiba (WTD) Joey (GC) Tier 3 Yami Marik (note: 9/5/15, moved up from Tier 4) Yami Yugi (BC) (note: 9/5/15, moved up from Tier 4) Kaiba (BC) (note: 9/5/15, moved up from Tier 4) Ziegfried Von Shroeder Joey (WTD) (note: 9/5/15, moved down from top of Tier 3) Valon (note: 9/5/15, moved down from top of Tier 3) Alister Tier 4 Mai (WTD) (note: 9/5/15, moved down from Tier 3) Weevil Underwood (GC) (note: 9/5/15, moved down from Tier 3) Rex Raptor (GC) (note: 9/5/15, moved down from Tier 3) Weevil Underwood (WTD) (note: 9/5/15, moved down from Tier 3) Rex Raptor (WTD) (note: 9/5/15, moved down from Tier 3) Tier 5 Marik Odion Joey (BC) Yami Bakura (BC) Pegasus (WTD) (note: 9/5/15, moved down from Tier 4) Mai (BC) Ishizu Tier 6 Rebecca (GC) Strings Lumis & Umbra Arkana Seeker Tier 7 Mako Tsunami (BC) Weevil Underwood (BC) Rex Raptor (BC) Bandit Keith (BC) Tier 8 Yami Yugi (DK) Kaiba (DK) Pegasus (DK) Rebecca (DK) Tier 9 Mai (DK) Mako Tsunami (DK) Weevil Underwood (DK) Rex Raptor (DK) Tier 10 Bonz I probably missed a few people. Duelist Kingdom is so low because it was such a "beginner" type arc. I can't place the Big 5. UPDATE 9/5/15: After rewatching some duels, I've readjusted quite a few people. Some people moved up or down a tier or two, some people moved up or down within the same tier. Edited by Pyrus, Sep 6 2015, 01:35 AM.

Pretty good list. You missed Dartz, GC and WTD Weevil and Rex, Bonz, and you already mentioned the big five. I'm not so sure if DK Weevil is lesser to DK Mai, given she was gushing about how great he was(though that might have been English dub only)

For the Record, I. Battle city, Joey literally just had to say attack and he would have beaten Marik |

I added them in. I just put Mai ahead of Weevil because of her being more relevant to the main characters. I'm not sure about the WTD guys (Mai, Weevil, Rex) being above Yugi, Kaiba, and Marik from BC, though. I have an odd feeling about that for some reason, maybe because they had God Cards. Yeah, but that was due to Marik underestimating him. Who knew someone like Joey would survive a direct attack from an Egyptian God Card? Maybe Yugi or even Kaiba, but Joey? It wasn't likely. |

That's still a failure. Underestimating the wrong person gets you killed, even if its just once. Then they're alive, and you're dead. End of story lol |
