all the dbz series had complex plots, lots of twists and turns, and really thats all i want to see, i want some serious plots.

it was crazy when the android arch started, so many things happened u didnt expect, it really keeps u interested in the story. its good when someone almost dies or does die, or a minor character steps up to the plate to protect others, or someone is training far away to come help but we dont know if they will make it in time or be strong enough to make a difference

DBZ was like game of thrones u never knew what to expect lol, GT and The movies were all kinda predictable and lame

I believe that Toriyama will bring the story to a new level. He has already done that by introducing the god forms, Whis and Beerus, and the 12 realms of the universe. The groundwork is laid for a potentially interesting and diverse story. We don't know where he's going to go with the series, but seeing as there are other gods out there we know that potentially there are 12 major villains. Potentially. So the oppurtunity to forge complex plots and twists is definately there, we just have to hope Toriyama cultivates what he started.

Oh, definitely not. There were plenty of twists in DBZ, but a lot of them came at the expense of character development(Majin Vegeta) or any sense(Kid Boo). And then new films have been very straightfoward

Honestly I think a complex plot would be alright, but it NEEDS to be shorter. I was able to handle the Arc Fatigue for seasons 2 & 3 because this was the first time a villian of that scope was introduced. Seasons 4 - 6 had about three or four main villians that rotated, so it stayed fresh. Seasons 7 - 9 really just were the same thing, and season 8 was intensly uncompelling. Lot of build up with no payoffs. Sometimes short is sweet too.

Honestly, I am gonna get such an amazing amount of flack for this, but this cannot be any worse than anything else I've put out. Seriously id like to see Super be a bit more like....The Clone Wars. If you've ever seen the show it has one overarching story with three or four episode little arcs per season. It delivers drama, action, variety, character development and all the like all in one. We've seen 40 episode fights to the finish on Z before, lets see some change!

Hopefully there won't be the filler problem Z had. However, it is releasing as a manga, so maybe there will be if they're desperate to get a weekly episode going this soon.

I can see it being as complex, or a tad greater than that of the Android-Cell arc. Twelve other universes (with twelve other enemies and/or allies) and universal time alteration are similar to a degree. Even if Toriyama increased the complexity higher, to a reasonable level, it's still can be looked at in a more suitable, modernly manner--since it's a later Age within the story and the year 2015 for us.

Since DBS takes place post-Boo arc, then the characters' levels of power - being stronger that is - shouldn't be a big deal at all. Even Toriyama mentioned that he needs to make Goku (or all his characters, I can't remember exactly), stronger because the story is progressing. That is to keep the story itself interesting and moving forward.

A nice, reasonable touch of complexity-beyond to correlate with power-scaling should make a nice, enjoyable, and hopefully logical, series.

Lolwhat? Majin Vegeta was the pinnacle of Vegeta's character development.

Toriyama isn't known for his complicated plots, but at the same time he isn't exactly writing each story a week before it's due, so who knows. If Resurrection F is anything to go by, it'll be really simple.

Complexity in what way? The subject matter of the plot? Characters and villains alike with morally intricate shades of grey who are capable of sparking controversy and discussion amongst the fans on the basis of who was right/wrong or who was righteous/ignoble? Well as others have stated, Toriyama isn't known for exploring deep philosophical or literary concepts with his works. He doesn't try to convey some moral with his story like others might do. You're not going to find someone like Kishimoto's Pain/Nagato or JK Rowling's Severus Snape in this because Dragonball doesn't rely on plot or morality to thrive, it relies on action and suspense.

Even the most story driven arcs like the Frieza and Cell arcs are still very tame in comparison to other shonen like Rurouni Kenshin (one of my favorite mangas of all time, I should add).

Besides anti-heroes/villains like Vegeta and Piccolo being gradually developed over time from their darker roots, there's not much you could argue for Toriyama's characters coming across as "compelling" or "deep". I mean how often can you say that the Z-warriors have been confronted with sins from their own past or that the villains held a greater motive to justify their actions besides wanting to kill and conquer for the hell of it? One of the closest examples of that which I can think of is Frieza calling Goku a hypocrite in fighting for the sake of a species that delighted itself in slaughtering innocent people. Something which Goku promptly dismissed as being well-deserved for the Saiyans since he recognised his own people for the bloodthirsty monsters that they truly were. Frieza doesn't bother to continue with the "holier than thou" approach because there's really nothing else he can use to justify his actions with.

You're just not going to find that much depth or complexity in DBZ. Would I personally like to see characters with a more compelling reason to act besides wanting to be the strongest? Of course! But at the same time, my expectations of seeing anything like that from Toriyama are pretty low.

Has Dragon Ball ever had a complex plot? I think not. Rather simple. Sometimes they make tie-ins, but that is far from being complex.

Its hard to say that the plot will be complex. This plot would need to be thought about with care. Also, AT shouldn't plot each saga or arc as tho it were his last like he did with DBZ.
