Jesus christ Steve, are you actually serious? How can you sit there and try to form a rebuttal for every point? What is the point of being so pessimistic for no reason? A handful of people do something bad: "humanity is doomed" |

UGH f*** I want to smack the guy who did that to the dog There is a lot of bad stuff in this world. It's sad that people make life harder for other people for stupid reasons. Like this guy who abused and killed the dog. But what about all those other good people who devote their lives to helping animals? People devote their lives to helping other people and animals. There are great people in the world too. It will always be 50/50 unfortunately. It's just good vs evil. This world isn't perfect and I guess sometimes evil is necessary so we can understand and appreciate the good Edited by Ssj3vegito96, Jun 2 2015, 06:45 AM.

There are also many examples of kindness that wouldn't even make the news if they were interested in showing the good side of humanity. I've seen people get off a bus and give their day ticket to people waiting at the bus shelter because they're finished with it for the day (I also do that myself on occasion), or people helping to pay for a person's bus ticket when they're short for the whole cost of the ticket (I've seen it, and someone has done it for me). People who help someone who's clearly struggling to carry heavy bags to their house/car. There are countless kickstarter-type things where people raise money for those in need. You could even go as far as basic politeness like holding doors for people (basic, but still a kindness). Plus, to say that 'most good things come as a reaction to bad things' is just not true. That's just creating a rebuttal for the sake of being pessimistic. |

Isn't there a whole episode of friends like this? Where Joey is trying to prove that people only do good things because of selfish reasons? I didn't see the whole episode but I imagine he ended up being proven wrong during that part where he was part of a tv show's phone in thing. |

Okay, that seriously made my blood boil. But here is the thing... People took pictures and possible video of this happening, but NONE stepped out and said something. Just like the kids that let another be bullied, for example. In the last year or so, a homeless man sleeping at the beach was set on fire by people that were never caught. That just about made me lose it. Some people have a clear understanding of right and wrong and choose to do right. Most people do not do wrong because they are afraid of the consequences. There is a difference between the two. Humanity, as a whole, is incredibly short-sighted and selfish. Edited by sekzee, Jun 2 2015, 06:23 PM.

Pretty big claim there, is there any evidence to back it up? It's very easy to get lost in all of the bad things that people do, as it's what gets reported the most. A 'Good Samaritan' story likely won't get as much attention as a story about a despicable person and whatever they've done. As such, most of the good people do gets overlooked. There are good people out there doing good things all of the time, you just don't see it nearly as often due to the news coverage of negative stories. |

I wouldn't dare say that there are not a ton of people out there that do good beyond that which directly benefits them or their loves ones. That much I know is true. But the majority of people cannot and do not care beyond a certain degree of separation. That is within our nature and not all manage to look past it. Edited by sekzee, Jun 2 2015, 06:27 PM.

These Dark nature/acts is present in all of us. It just manifests differently for all the people in the world. It's true that some people(or perhaps mostly all of us) are born with purity and innocence. But,make no mistake, all the peoples purity and innocence will eventually get tarnished. It's inevitable, we all will eventually share the same fate as those members in our society which we consider a 'monster'. But, since the impurity within each and every one of us manifests differently some of us them claim that they are different from those other 'horrendous people'. It's true that we can't eradicate this impurity or darkness (whatever you want to call it) completely, but, we can learn to accept the impurities/flaws within ourselves and transform them into a more postive effect. Ironically, most of the people who commit these horrible and horrendous acts are the ones who actually lost faith in humanity and hence resulted in their horrendous acts. Remember, no one is perfect, and the impurities or flaws within us are used to remind us that we are not perfect and we are flawed. Your job is to correct or transform your flaws into a more positive effect. |

People who are saying that there is an abundance of people who think about doing wrong, and want to do wrong, but don't do so because they are scared, are making a ridiculously pessimistic claim about humanity. You really think that there are a massive number of people out there who walk down the street thinking "man, I want to kill this dog/push this guy in front of a car/punch this old lady in the face", but don't do it because they are scared? Sure, there are some people who think that way, and those people are psychopaths (apologies if I got the classification wrong there, but you know what I mean). That's just not true for the vast majority of humanity. It sounds like you're just projecting your outlook on humanity into the thoughts of other people, when you can't possibly know what they are thinking. I know that if you feel this way, there's no way I can change your mind because I can't prove what I just said as much as you can't prove what you said, but trust me, the people who fall into that category are a lot smaller in number than you seem to think. |
