Why do people like concerts? Why do people enjoy being smashed between other people? Other sweaty, smelly, high people who could care less if you are there next to them or not and thus act like you're in the way?

Take the drugs and alcohol out of the picture. Now why do people like concerts?
Why do people love spending money that they sometimes don't have, (my brother), on concerts?

The concert is in the worst spot in the middle of an overpopulated town with little to no parking. Buses don't run that late. Why would anyone find that situation enjoyable?

I've been to a few concerts. Every time, I didn't enjoy myself at all.
People puking everywhere, smoke in your face half the time, people expecting you to pass weed around, no room to dance so your legs lock up and hurt, tall people standing in front of you, people wiping glow in the dark paint on your black shirt that doesn't come off, THAT B.O. SMELL OF THE UGLY DUDE BEHIND YOU, the dude that attempts to flirt with your girlfriend when you're right next to her, the pickpockets.

Why? I cringe just thinking about it. I've had a lot of bad experiences...

People look past those things I'm guessing and focus on the music. Or the drugs and alcohol. I've yet to go to one, but now I know I won't go to an indoor concert. Unless it's not a secular one.

I love the noise. If it made my ears ring afterwards then they did something right. I barely even notice anyone else there. I get lost in the noise and the energy of the place.

For quieter events I suppose people just love seeing their favourite artist perform on the stage. I have to say it is rather interesting to see an artist on stage when you've only seen them on the television. There's always something different about them. They might be fatter or uglier or even sound different.

When I went to see Billy Connelly live, we saw him walking around the outside of the venue, which is something he likes to do at his gigs. Only we didn't recognise him at the time because he had a different haircut and beard. And even when he walked out on stage, we weren't sure if it was him or a technician since he was fairly unrecognisable looking.

My social anxiety specifically causes me to focus on what's around me, rather than the music I love. I suddenly don't care who's performing, instead, i'm worried about having my wallet stolen.

I was actually conscious of that at a Motorhead gig and so every time someone bumped me, I would check my pockets.

You didn't once mention the music in your opening post. Seeing someone perform live is why people go to concerts. Sure, some people like the things you mentioned, the atmosphere of the concerts (I'm not one of them), but the vast majority of people go to concerts to see bands performing live, something that you can't do without being at the concert (you can watch videos, but it's not the same experience).

For the people who feel the same way you do, but still go to concerts, it basically comes down to them loving live music more than hating the negative aspects that come with it.

It also sounds like you've been to the wrong concerts. Not all concerts are rife with drugs, alcohol and vomit.

I go to a concert to hear the music played live. You're not always smashed up against people, there are seats... I just went to Dragonforce concert over the weekend and I had a seat and plenty of room. At a heavy metal show I jump in the pit cause its fun and fits the intensity of the music.

The amount of people at that one. lol. Living in Austin, every concert you go to no matter who is playing is usually wall to wall people packed full. Austin is known for their concerts, and many of them. ACL fest for one.

I'll give you that. I took my girlfriend to see Brand New last year. Her favorite band, otherwise we'd not have gone. There was no vomit. It was outdoors. Cool air night. Only issue I had there was the smoke in your face and tall people in your way.

That being said, most of my bad experiences come from the concerts I went to with my Ex. Would explain a lot actually. Deadmau5 was awful in that regard. People were rolling on just about every drug you could think of.

How do they have seats at a Dragonforce concert? Austin venues would never do that. They'd be too afraid that people would mosh into others and people would fall on the chairs and break something. Or use the chairs as part of the mosh.

Clearly it depends on your mind set.

I've been to a air few gigs, but only because I like the band playing and want to see them live. I don't go to drink or do drugs......as then I wouldn't enjoy the music.

The smell/sweatyness I think just comes with the territory, as depending on the type of music you like that's what happens when you jump around etc. For what its worth, several gigs I'v been to there is always a better spot to be where you have more space. you don't always have to be in the crowd/mosh pit/where ever to enjoy the music, sometimes a more distanced view gives you a better look at the band.

How much you want to spend depends on why you're. I've shelled out more money than I had to see my favourite band (Limp Bizkit) because they rarely come over here to do a full set and not a festival.

Imo if big venue music concerts aren't your thing check out smaller venues. I live an hour away from San Francisco so there's always live shows playing and usually in super nice clean small venues, they usually fit 200 people max. And the atmosphere in the smaller venues is so amazing! Don't give up on LIVE music!!!

At least here there are different seating options for concerts - seats around the stadium and then general admission / mosh type thing in the middle by the stage.

For me when I go to these sort of concerts what I love is the buzz you get from being surrounded by a bunch of people who are all there because they have at least this one thing in common - enjoying said music. It can be quite a rush in my experience and something jumping around and dancing in a massive cround to some music you can just sorta let yourself go (and you don't need drugs / alcohol to do it) and just have a really good time.

Other artists can be different. I saw Jack Johnson live at a vineyard down in the middle of NZs North Island and it was stunning. You could go up the front with the crowd and dance and sing along (though still far less crowded / pushing) or sit towards the back; literally on a picnic rug.

Then for some people I can definitely get why you don't enjoy them. For me i'm an extroverted introvert - I enjoy social activity and getting out there with people, but then need recovery time to myself afterwards, and concerts always exhaust me in that respect.

Greetings. I will be your waifu this season.

Yeah I really don't get this and probably never will.

Beyond seeing your favourite band in the flesh there doesn't seem to be an appeal to me, you're lucky if you can even hear the music being played really unless you're at the front.

I'd far rather the crisp audio of it playing on TV or a CD without "WOOOOOOO YEAHHHHH" in the background. Like what vevuzela's(whatever) did to the World Cup, just kind of ruined it.

Popular one's here are T In The Park and Belladrum/Tartan Heart Festival.

Those I especially don't understand because not only are there more people in outside ones but you'll be caked in mud, at least in the UK. Not to mention the weather if it rains it's just going to suck.

I wouldn't be paying £100 a ticket for that over £2 for an album on iTunes and blasting it full volume at home.
And that's not including accommodation and travel expenses either.

Concerts are not for me. That being said, Ive been to a few and it was only for the reason you mentioned, to see my favorite band play live. I saw them twice, and while I am glad I went and grateful for the experience, I quickly determined that I would much rather stay at home and play an album.

But there are still a couple bands I would still consider going to see if given the opportunity.
