Yes but only as far back as the first time machine to be invented. It would be like a telephone or a fax machine where it won't work unless there's one at the other end.

Depends. Does time exist? Or is it a man made concept?

It exists since it can be affected by gravity. If you travelled at the speed of light then I think everything around you speeds up but you stay the same. I dunno, I'm a bit rusty when it comes to temporal physics.

Greetings. I will be your waifu this season.

Time is a law of the universe, measuring it is the human thing really we just make not necessarily correct assumptions.

But anyway yeah to travel whenever we wanted it would probably need to be a space and time machine otherwise it would need to be like Pel said, I guess something sort of like a Stargate that instead of two places bridges two times instead.

Imagine how cool it would be if that was adapted in to future technologies?

Skype Time or some s***.

*calling future me*
"Did we f*** up?"
"Yeah we f***ed up, make sure you kill as many llama's back then as possible...you just have to"

That would be an interesting invention though I wonder what changes in society it would bring.

Kind of hope it doesn't ever happen though just in case it does ever end up crumbling reality or whatever.

However, considering the vastness of the universe and the amount of crazy things we don't know in it, probably happens already and the universe is still here.

You should be the first to go in the past. You would be Future StrawHatCrew to the people in the past.

You mean time dilation: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_dilation

I suppose it might be possible if time is a linear stream. But who's to say it is?

I don't think anyone really knows whether it's possible. I would not be surprised if the possibility of time travel is consistent with the math used to model physics, but that's not really saying much. I don't know enough physics to say anything more intelligent.

I can't imagine we ever having the technology to travel through time. To even think of the mechanics involved to create something like that gives me a headache.

from what I understand, it is technically possible, but the ways of doing it are so crazy (something like travelling around a black hole at the speed of light, without falling into its gravitational pull, was something Stephen Hawking suggested I believe ) it may not happen for a very long time.

the way in which it is theorised to work is also not how we imagine it either, time will pass, but not in great magnituge. IE, we cant just say like "I want to go back to 1947", if you managed to do the above you could only really travel forward in time, and then it determined for the length of time you spend traveling at the speed of light, so as an example, you travel around the black hole for 3 days at light speed and you travel forward in time by X ammount, depending on the size of the black hole.

Thats my understanding of it at least.
