If new gods were introduced, what would be the reasons for them to intervene

 If new gods of destruction or god of time or peace or whatever were introduced, what would be the reasons for them to intervene in the 7th universe or Goku and Vegeta to go to another universe?

Another question, if Akira Toriyama made a serious attempt to give Gohan and Piccolo more of a important role, so it won't be like gt, how do you think they will achieve this?

Can someone settle this, what role does AT have in the new series? Is he writing the stories or just the concepts?

 I have no idea what it's going to involve. I don't think anybody has the scoop yet.

Maybe the other Gods of Destruction find out that the 7th universe is harbouring beings almost as strong as gods but Beerus has opted not to eliminate the 'threat' to the natural order. So they intervene.

 Ohh that's a neat idea ^ a God of destruction or two from other universes find out that the gods of 7th universe have allowed beings(goku, vegeta, and Frieza) to become dangerously powerful and an argument breaks out and a war between all the gods of a few universes breaks out BAM f***ING EPIC

Or something along the lines of that

 I think that it would be for the same reason Cooler attacked Goku. They found out the God of Destruction of the 7th Universe had been defeated, and would want to challenge him to protect their honor.

Though, it could also be that they are corrupted by someone.

They would probably show for reasons concerning Beerus and Whis.

Toriyama could just make anyone he wants steonger to be able to fight more gods. Simple.

 Beerus loses his mind at the fact that Goku and Vegeta, two non-gods, have surpassed him and Whis, and so another god has to intervene and shut him up.

 It could be that other gods hear about Goku and Vegeta's strength and come to test theirs against them. Or it could be the opposite. Other gods from the various realms have their own powerful beings, who, unlike Goku and Vegeta are a menace. So Goku and Vegeta are dispatched to take care of them. Many things could be conjured up to explain the involvement of other realms and gods.

 Dragonball isn't exactly known for its intricate storylines or multi-layered characters, but I think more could be done to help expand the scope of personalities and motives. Beerus and Whis were steps in the right direction. They weren't just your standard cookie-cutter mustache twirling villains hellbent on conquering the world. Both characters were forces of nature - guardians and architects who function as part of the grand design that are neither good or evil - who just are. Granted, they do function with the capacity and leeway to be prejudiced in their obligations, but ultimately they're motivated by the desire to keep the natural order in check.

If somehow at least a few of the other gods could be introduced into the series with their own distinct motives for doing what they do besides just wanting to be the strongest, it would offer just a little bit more intrigue to the characters themselves and not just their strength.

 I'm not sure I entirely agree. Sure, Whis and Beerus are "different" than previous antagonists/villains; they have titles and positions, and are not necessarily evil or good. However, Beerus' motivation for fighting Goku is almost akin to someone like Cell (post-completion), who merely wanted to test his strength. As you say, Dragon Ball isn't known for its intricate stories. There is perhaps a greater purpose for Beerus' initial motivations that is yet to be uncovered. More may be revealed in the near future. I do agree though that it would be nice to see more detailed and elaborate stories, which is something I think Dragon Ball would do well to aspire to accomplish.

 If new Gods came its probably cause the Trunks and Frieza incident. And Goku beating Frieza (Ruler of the Universe)

My bet is fat beerus will make some sort of wager with beerus, something like "i bet my universe has stronger fighters than yours"
