I'm very slowly making my way through Yugioh and Black Bullet.

It truly was a Shawshank redemption

I watched the first two episodes of Gurren Lagann but couldn't get into it. Gonna give Cowboy Bebop a go instead. I want to get into anime, but too many of them have comedic elements that just aren't funny to me, and make them unwatchable. I had a look around for some more 'serious' animes, and Bebop came up (so did Monster, another one I'm gonna start soon).

"Course. Doing better next time. That's what life is."

Black Bullet was good for the first 4 episodes.
I'm watching a lot right now, cause they are all airing. Here's the list:

I need a new anime to binge, haven't found one in weeks and it's getting annoying. Need a breakthrough and find a good one. Just rewatching Clannad right now because why not. I mostly forget what goes on in shows after a couple months so I am able to rewatch them nicely. Only thing is I remember major plot points.

I'm the same way. I forget the majority of the anime two days after finishing. I have horrible memory though. Dragonball is the only manga that I can recall because I've watched it 14 times and read it 6 times.

My memory always gets worse and worse. It's frustrating cause I love watching tv shows and I love talking about them, but after 2 months I can barely have a conversation with people about them because I've forgotten so much.

I could not tell you much about Breaking Bad or many other shows besides a couple major plot points. If I go and rewatch it it will be like watching it for the first time, only kind of like someone spoiled the ending and other spots for me.

I can't converse whatsoever about things I've seen. For example, I watched something called Eden of the East somewhat recently, and I didn't even remember that I had seen it until today.

I remember a lot of what I've seen, but I definitely forget things. Eden of the East was an alright anime.

I remember nothing about it other than the fact that the main character forgot about his identity. I don't even remember his name.

I find that I remember things more easily if I talk about the show more with other people while I'm watching it, whether it be with someone who's also watching it, someone who's not, or just in some discussion thread on some forum full of people I don't know. You guys might want to try this sometime, assuming you don't do it much.

As for what I'm watching right now (sporadically, since I'm also a little busy studying right now):

Jojo's Bizarre Adventure 2012
Mirai Nikki
Nekomonogatari
Shokugeki no Soma
Death Note (rewatching; recently reread the mang0 and wanted to compare them)

Monster
Cowboy Bebop
Mushishi
Haibane Renmei
Ping Pong the Animation
Serei No Moribito
Ghost in the Shell
Berserk

That'd be my go-to serious stuff. Not a bad place to start at least. There's plenty of movies you could hit up as well.

Comedy just in general is a bit weak in anime. Barakamon is genuinely the only one that actually made me laugh out loud a couple of times. Steins;Gate has really witty dialogue too.

Mardock. Freaking. Scramble.

I just binge-watched the whole trilogy and fell madly in love. The music, the acting, the art, the story, was amazing. I feel like if I had to describe it, it would be a mixture of Cowboy Bebop, Metropolis and Speed Grapher in one set of three movies. It's about a dystopian future where a girl survives an attempted murder, and the trouble she and the doctors who saved her run into while trying to keep her alive to testify. I would say the genres covered are film noir, action, body horror, and tragedy
