I rate games on a scale of 1-to-Zelda based on how I enjoy the experience. Nothing ever comes close to Zelda.

I'm more of a Metroid fan myself. Every couple of months I find myself playing through most of them. |

Hunters was one of the weakest ones. Prime is probably the best. |

It depends on the type of game. if it's single player only game then, 1.Game play(That is it should easy to learn but difficult to master) 2. Decent story 3. Replay Value if it's a multiplayer only game, 1. Obviously, Game play(like mentioned above easy to learn but difficult to master) 2. It should be Balanced and no DLC and such bulls***. 3. It should be Competitive. That is it should depend on the players skills rather than solely on items. That is there should be a good relationship between the player and items present in the game. And for games with singleplayer and multiplayer modes they should have all the above mentioned points. |

I don't think I'll ever be able to write down all the criteria I use. There's just so many factors: - Is there a well written plot? Does it make sense? How much freedom do I have? - Are the characters likable? Personally I use Fire Emblem as the best example of this. - If it's multiplayer, how well do they pull it off? How bad is the community? Do I still have room to do my own thing? - Is there a good soundtrack? - Did the company put any effort into it? - I don't care about the technicalities of graphics, but does it fit the game and make it look good? My favourite game in 2014 was actually Transistor because of all that stuff. There's a fantastic soundtrack, I very much enjoy the gameplay and characters, the plot is pretty decent but also gives me the free space to put my own spin on it. the graphics are gorgeous. They even put in small things where you character will hum to the music when you hold down the tab button: Game spoiler They didn't have to put that feature in there, it would have cost them money to do so, but they did it anyways. I can't stand game companies who just put in the bare minimum (and some don't even bother with that). |

I'm a simpleton. Do I enjoy the game? If yes, it's a great game. If not, it's not a great game. Granted things like graphics, game play, music and voice acting all play a part. Good graphics don't make a game. But there is a level of expectation for new games. I'm a HUGE fan of little details. For some reason when a developer puts a lot of effort in little details it feels like they cared about the game more. It makes it all that much more enjoyable for me for some reason. |

It more impacts my decision to buy a game than anything, it doesn't change what I think of the quality of the game. Edited by Crashbreaka, May 9 2015, 11:47 PM.

That ^. Awards I don't really care for personally. If a game I love gets an award it kewl, but otherwise awards won't sway my views on a game. Awards get a lot of people butthurt tho which is funny. People were pissed when Gamespot chose ALBW as their GOTY 2013 and not Last of Us.

Replayability. I mean,if you beat the game and then never go back to it I wouldn't consider it great. |
