My Dear Melancholy,

I'm watching this LIVE. It's a riot. I'm scared. This been the main topic all day. This is one of the scariest thing I've ever seen. I've never witness at riot in person from my house. Broken cop cars everywhere and rocks. Stealing police and everyone and anyone is being pepper sprayed (even news reporter). Most of Maryland is being shut down. First time I've ever seen a police almost killed and someone arrested. The library is locked not letting anyone leave. I don't know what to make of it. It was peaceful protest Saturday until a police said something which started a riot. Monday today was ...no IS a massive riot. Even Rival gangs are allying together and City Hall is full of police. I'm locked in my room as my mom doesn't want me to go to work (near the riot) http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/maryland/baltimore-city/bal-university-of-baltimore-closes-amid-high-school-purge-threat-20150427-story.html http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/maryland/baltimore-city/bal-university-of-baltimore-closes-amid-high-school-purge-threat-20150427-story.html http://m.wbaltv.com/news/demonstrators-converge-in-baltimore/32595700 http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2015/04/27/baltimore-credible-threat/26454875/ Just Google Baltimore https://www.google.com/search?q=Baltimore&oq=Baltimore&aqs=chrome..69i57j69i60l2j69i61j69i60l2.2138j0j4&client=ms-android-sprint-us&sourceid=chrome-mobile&espvd=1&ie=UTF-8 The Freddie Gray incident: http://www.cnn.com/2015/04/24/us/baltimore-freddie-gray-death/ http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/thousands-expected-mondays-funeral-freddie-gray-30605789 http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2015/04/why-is-freddie-gray-dead.html http://live.baltimoresun.com/Event/Latest_updates_from_the_Freddie_Gray_case_in_Baltimore Opinions? Thoughts? Update: Police officers will do ANYTHING to protect police 7 officers injured with broken bones 1 officer unconscious 1 dead 10 cop cars destroyed 2 cars set on fire Large riots. City Hall address coming soon Looting Riot happened same day as his(Freddie G.) funeral KKK was involved Saturday which caused Saturday riot The riot is spreading across Baltimore Multiple streets are shut down City hall in danger Multiple cars on fire 11 people arrested Not a lot arrested Most of rioters are HIGHSCHOOL students Saturday was mostly adults which is why it was calm until KKK got involved. Civilians who are innocent are being attacked now Law breaking in places where there's no police. Edited by QueenTD, Apr 27 2015, 10:10 PM.

I don't think this course of action is any sort of positive outlet to change an already bad situation, considering more innocent people can be hurt, and that was what started the riots in the first place. Please stay careful and safe! |

I love how his family asked for peace but these stupid kids just want to use this as an excuse to break s***. I take it it's some kind of race thing as per usual? Rioting. Good way to build a great reputation for your people To be honest I think they should take aggressive action, the police are the law. Tear gas and guns should have been out long ago these childish acts should have been stopped before someone got killed. What even is the issue? I heard the guy died in police custody? Which means like what 3 cops might have been him up and killed him or something, so of course the whole police force is Satan and should be murdered. Yes much like the Germans and Japanese, their people did bad things in the past I suppose today they are all evil and should be killed, it's only logical that the acts of the few represent the many. Forever. This is why I don't mind police shooting people. Imagine this was happening and they couldn't defend themselves? Even though pretty much all of them are innocent their lives are in danger because a bunch of ignorant a-holes want to make a mess of the place and steal stuff. ![]() I thought we were supposed to be an intelligent, civilized and evolved species... |

They used Tear Gas but the kids kicked the tear gas back at the police. Freddie was mystery killed while in police custody while NOT rejecting arrest. He received spine damage and neck damage. He was refused medical attention. The riot moved from my area thank God. Edited by QueenTD, Apr 27 2015, 10:19 PM.

I think that things like that justify riots. When the people in authority are unjust and above the law then it's all you can do to try and force some kind of change. I mean what good is picketing going to do when the entire system is rotten right through? I think it sucks that innocent people get caught up in this. It shouldn't have to happen. But what other options are there? What is shown to work? Sometimes the people in charge need their heads pulled out of their asses. |

Riots are always bad of course. But in this case, i don't see another way to get a point across. When you live in a society that doesn't give a damn about peaceful protests, people grow tense and become violent instead. Lets just hope these riots will stop soon and police brutality in America will be fought properly |

All the rioting does is give the police more incentive to use lethal force. Shockingly enough, when there are marauding gangs, people tend to want them off the streets. In this case, rioting is quite possibly the worst reaction possible because all it does is prove the stereotype and alienate people from your cause when you support jumping around the place like a brutish ape. |

You know they had a lot of these similar issues in New York in the 1970s. Corruption was rampant and the police could not be trusted by anyone. But it got fixed. A change in local government and a drive to force out corruption changed it and now a lot of New York is really nice when it used to be a heck hole. I think that can happen in other places in America too. But enough people have to want it enough and rioting all the time isn't the long term solution. And I have a feeling that some of these rioters don't even care about the issues. It's just an excuse to go crazy and rob s***. Which obviously really doesn't help. Some is kind of an understatement, most of them appear to be teenagers or young adults. Like they actually give a crap I bet if you asked most what they're doing it for and if they knew Freddie they'd wonder who Freddie was. This doesn't do any good at all this only gives an incentive for cops to be less forgiving, if people are going to start murdering them over the slightest thing why should they take any chances? What should be done is whoever killed the guy should get prosecuted, that is what people should be out there PROTESTING for not murdering, vandalizing and stealing. Rise above the law by being bigger criminals than you claim police to be. I guess that makes sense? Kinda? Maybe...? ... |

To be fair, peacefully protesting wouldn't have a huge impact. Unless the individuals who the protests are targeting have a sudden change of heart, they'll simply ignore the protests and carry on with their business. They give you the moral high-ground, but they're easily ignored unless the protest is humongous in scale, which isn't normally the case. Riots aren't better in the slightest, but peaceful protests aren't the great alternative that gets things done. |

Keep in mind. Freddie Gray family requested NO form of protest today due to his funeral. I for one don't like these riots because I live in this city. They set FIRE to stores and cut the fire hose to keep fire alive smh. This supports the Porch Monkey Black stereotype. How is this helpful? This has NOTHING to do with Freddie. Freddie (RIP) is an excuse for this useless violent. I'm actually angry at this. They're not in my area no more(I live on outskirts of Bmore. 3 minutes away from City. I'm in county). Maryland is under state of emergency and have called National Guard. And a 15 year old stole a truck. Keep in mind these are highschool kids doing this not adults. Freddie deserves justice as he was injustice killed. But this isn't right. Maryland isn't allowing anyone to go on vacation and curfew is effective immediately starting tomorrow at 9PM. They expect more violence as night comes. Traffic is back up. And from my window there's no police. The police station is empty. News say over 1,000 cops are there and they're STILL out numbered. Why destroy your own city? You still live there next day. BTW there's a separate peaceful protest but it's being ignored by media. The peaceful protest was ignored. 15 officers hurt 2 unconscious in hospital CVS Pharmacy set on fire Store set on fire 7-11 looted THE CHURCH (atheist be respectful please) has been destroyed/looted A 10 year old is in riot This is depressing. Sounds like a similar situation to the London riots a few years ago. People were coming from outside the city just to cause trouble, completely oblivious to any real social issues. It was made more apparent afterwards when the people who actually lived in the effected areas where helping each other and emergency services to clean up the mess. |

That was Saturday riot that had outside states influence. Saturday was peaceful until KKK appeared which started riots. Today was mostly Baltimore City highschool kids and later adults (I'm guessing). Not alot of outside influences. Just reckless teens. I go to a private school but I do "know" some of people I've seen. Now it's Adults, Kids, Teens, and just a mess. Live Update; Looting at malls Looting at back doors Dozens Arrested City uproar. Old people are hurt They compared this to 1968 . Police cars set on fire More fire. Baltimore smells like smoke and fire Mom got home safe ![]() Most streets are closed. |
