But...

He has a point.

A lot of people don't get to live their dream work/job (or don't know) & they have to settle for whatever.

What's the point of living if you can't even get to see the sun? You're spending most of your days awake working.

You wake up and then work and then go to sleep. When you come back home the sun went down and you just feel too tired. The day is just about over. Feeling like you wasted your day. Repeat that the next day.

Summer Days they can't enjoy. Nothing.

Not even the work feels any good since that's what they settled for and they probably don't even enjoy it a bit. Life is just so unfair.

To those unfortunate people, what are they supposed to do?

That's wasting your life.

8 hours for work. 8 hours for play. 8 hours for sleep.

Seems fair enough... (with travel time coming out of play or sleep time being up to the individual).

Salary sometimes comes at a price. And sometimes that price is 10-12 hour work days. I used to do those during project startup.
It's not so much depressing as it is exhausting.

I just figure that's part of growing up and starting a career.

four hours minimum or they have to pay you for at least four hours if you work less...

but to your point a regular job thats 9-5 is not bad. i work two jobs a night shift from 2pm-11pm on shedule but really 2pm-1am :( and a weekend job from 8am-8pm. dont have much of anytime to myself or off and cant do much of anything. basically get a few hours on sundays to get food and clean house clothes. only squeeze in a few minutes of games. im in a very small town so there really isnt anything to do after 10pm...and the night job tends to peak at about 80+ hours at a few months in the year :(...

but with a 9-5 man the things you can do with your time. see friends, family, movies, dates, hobbies, sleep, cook, write a book, sleep, have fun , did i mention sleep?

i know that going from not working to working is a bit different but youll get used to it in about a month or less. but its not the worst thing ever.

I don't mind an 8 hour day. 8am-4pm is what I normally work, and I still have time to work out and chill with friends after if I want to.

Are you doing Studies alongside it?

That's when it can become a huge problem. I can't even concentrate on one of them let alone two.

I may not deserve to live, but I will protect those in my reach with my reverse blade!

I wish I worked 8 hours a day, 5 days a week.

Not at the moment. When I return to school then I will probably just work weekends, and maybe some evenings.

You can get a job just like that *snips fingers*?

A bit off-topic but what are you doing?

I already have one, so I can simply change my availability.

I work on a golf course right now.

This week I'm working Sunday 10:30am-7:00pm, Monday 5:30pm-11:30pm or so, Thursday 9:30am-3:00pm, and Friday 4:00pm-11:30pm. My hours vary, but I can change my availability when I want. I also do 16 hours of school alongside that.

This summer I'll hopefully be working a full four or five days out of the week though. I don't mind 8 hour shifts. They drag sometimes, but it's worth it when it's over.

My girlfriend usually works early morning shifts (6:00-2:30 or something like that), so she has plenty to do with her day.

As a grad student I can really choose my own hours, and I find myself most productive between 12pm and 8pm, so that's typically when I'm in the office. My advisor is tenured and he only comes to campus three days a week. On Wednesdays he's consulting for some software company, and I don't think he even works on Friday. Three-day weekends. Sounds fun being a tenured prof.
