What if Vegeta got SSJ3 during the training with Whis and Goku? I find it possible but I always thought that SSJ3 is a mysterious Super Saiyan transformation unrelated to SSJ1 or SSJ2 and that only Goku knows how to obtain it (teached the method only to kid Trunks and Goten). Obtaining the SSJ3 with just higher power level, zenkai seems a bit to easy.. and Vegeta,Gohan would already have it especially Vegeta in BoG and maybe Kid Buu fight. Goku never actually showed Goten and Trunks how to do it in the Manga, they learned it by themself. Vegeta probably could learn it, but now that he has SSjG it doesn't seem necessary. Unless you can use SSj3 on top of SSj God. |

Then this is a bit wrong if Goku never showed.. it means Vegeta could've had the SSJ3 without any problem during the battle with Kid Buu.. also the anger he had in BoG... Maybe they did really learned from Goku but Akira Toriyama didn't showed this.. Edited by AkiyoSSJ, Apr 22 2015, 06:07 PM.

Vegeta could get that form if he trained harder. |
Piccolo: Just how many people have you sacrificed?! Cell: Sacrifice? Hmph, rubbish! On the contrary, it is an honor to become a fraction of my power. | |

No I say Vegeta doesn't have the form simply because it's ulterly useless to him at that moment. In BOG we know that he still didn't achieve it and then he saw SSJG and vowed to become one as well, SSJ3 is just fodder to him and the series in general now. |

IIRC, Achieving SSJ 3 is different than SSJ 1 and 2, both of those uses rage while i believe Goku said that he achieved SSJ 3 by tapping into something very deep inside of himself. |

Yes, he searched deep and found something but you also need a dead body to sustain this or special conditions like fusion. Anyway Vegeta having SSJ3 makes nothing for the story, he has a form as powerful as SSJGSSJ he would never use SSJ3, to be honest since BOG it was pretty much implied that both SSJ2 and SSJ3 are completly fodderised. Hence AT stating Goku won't use them anymore. |

I actually believe that Vegeta did actually know how to transform into SSj3 (manga canon) by the time we see him "10 years later" (Battle of Gods series aside); but he just chose to never use it for the same reasons that he never used Grade 3 during the Cell Arc. I also believe that he figured out how to do this not too long after the Kid Boo fight. Saiyan forms seem pretty flexible. It seems that you can know how to transform into a certain form without actually ever having an initial transformation into that form. Cell could use Grade 3 no problem, but it was only to showcase to Trunks that he knew how. Trunks also suggests that Vegeta knew how to transform into Grade 3, but never had actually even performed an initial transformation. I'm pretty sure Trunks would've known if Vegeta used the form previously considering that there's nowhere to hide from your training partner in the ROSAT. The overall characteristic balance of the form is atrocious enough where it's not worth the power increase trade-off in the end. Goku himself stated that SSj3 wasn't all it was cracked up to be because it couldn't be sustained by living people/or in the mortal world effectively due to the massive ki loss, and Vegeta probably came to this conclusion as well by observing Goku's shortcomings of massive ki loss during the fight with Kid Boo. We've seen the Saiyans backtrack on transformations before if they find that a form isn't really all that much better, even if it's stronger than the form that they opt to use instead. Goku concluded that regular SSj was better than the grades, despite it being noticeably "weaker". The characteristics were more balanced than the grades, and I don't see why we can't say that Vegeta might have come to the same conclusion about SSj3. SSj and SSj2 are inherently better than SSj3 because they don't cost a ridiculous amount of ki to sustain. Edited by Ketchup Revenge, Apr 26 2015, 12:30 PM.

Ssj3 is an unnatural abomination only obtainable in Otherworld without the strain of a living body and greater stamina or in fusion where the time limit decreases to compensate for the strain. Vegeta never trained in Otherworld, so no matter how strong he gets, he can't get ssj3. He can make his ssj2 stronger than Goku's ssj3 was during the Boo saga but unless he dies and spends time training without a body, he can't obtain it. That's the way I see it anyway.

There's nothing that proves that you need to have an unnatural circumstance to reach SSj3. All Goku states is that it's not really practical to use it with a living body, or in the living world due to the strain. He never suggests that it is otherwise unobtainable without special circumstance. If special circumstances were the case, you think that he'd mention it during the time that Kaioshin asked about it when he sees Gotenks as one. |

They were fused. That's as plain as day, he doesn't need to mention it considering individually Goten and Trunks can't even achieve ssj2 let alone 3. Goku says that a living body makes ssj3 harder to maintain, so logically that would mean that a living body would also make it harder to obtain. Nobody knows for sure because Goku never tried to obtain it in the living world, he only did it in Otherworld and Gotenks only did it as a fusion. i think the fact that Vegeta never managed it is evidence enough, considering he gained ssj and ssj2. |

Harder indeed, but not impossible. That's never stated. I believe Goku would've certainly made mention about it being impossible to reach in the living world. Considering that Gotenks "reached" it in a harsher environment than the conditions on Earth, that conclusion about less-than-ideal conditions on Earth doesn't seem to hold much water. And you're quick to jump to conclusions about Vegeta considering that we never even see him turn Super Saiyan during the 10 years later period. Edited by Ketchup Revenge, Apr 27 2015, 11:40 AM.

Maybe it isn't impossible but it'd be harder and take a lot more time and after witnessing the problems it presents in the living world, it's less than ideal. Why would Goku mention it at all? He wouldn't know, because as I said, he never tried to attain it in the living world or as a fusion. He had it from training in Otherworld, he has no clue as to whether or not he could have done it on Earth. However, Goku does not think of Vegeta as anything less than (potentially) his equal. Vegeta doubts he has the same natural gifts as Goku but Goku would never think that of Vegeta. Infact, Goku has before told Vegeta his training methods are less than ideal. Ideal conditions resulting from Otherworld or fusion is what I think led to ssj3, I don't think the same would have happened on Earth for Goku and he has no way of knowing one way or the other...and therefore, neither do we. We just have to interpret it anyway we want. Edited by superperfectnerd, Apr 27 2015, 12:31 PM.

I don't think being in Otherworld matters it's more about your body being able to handle it. Like when Goku was dead for example perhaps his body could take 20 years worth of punishment in a much shorter time, in the living world he'd have 20 years of training until he's broken, recovering then training again until he attains it. Whereas while dead he can push his body much harder. Those are ideal conditions really. It's just going to take longer while you're alive, not to mention the Ki drain. Anyway no I doubt he's ever going to get SSj3. Why? Because it gives Goku an advantage. SSj3GodSSj is inevitable. Basically they'll both get to SSj2GodSSJ but Goku needs to be a step ahead so he can amp up with SSj3 and Vegeta has to stay behind again because he's not the main character. |
