People getting offended on behalf of other people

It truly was a Shawshank redemption

Background information: In preparation for a play-off series the Portland Trailblazers wrote a series of inspirational quotes on their locker room wall, one of which being 'We don't lose to Spanish players' (the best player of the team they were playing is Spanish). The media found out about this and tried to blow it out of proportion because it could be seen as derogatory. They interviewed the player I mentioned, Marc Gasol, and he was quoted saying:

Quote:

"I don't have no take," Gasol said before the Grizzlies practiced. "And if I don't take anything out of it, I don't expect any of you guys [in the media] to take anything out of it. As far as I know, none of you guys are Spanish. So I hope nobody is bothered by that."

I feel like that sentiment is something that so many people in the world need to listen to. The world seems to ready to jump on something that could be deemed even slightly offensive, even if the people that are supposed to be offended by it aren't that bothered. I'm not saying people should just flat out not care about something if it doesn't concern themselves, but they should at least let the offended people make their own minds up about whether or not they are offended.

What does everyone else think?

"Next time?"
"Course. Doing better next time. That's what life is."

Crazy Awesome Legend

Sounds like something South Park would make fun of.

I agree by the way. Being offended on behalf of other people is kind of silly.

There is a line of course. I can't demand that only black people have a right to complain when I say something genuinely racist.
