If anyone deserves the God power, it's Future Trunks. Everyone else is either a narcissistic ego manic, a scholar that goes on a power trip when he holds an advantage, or a snotty child.
Trunks is no saint other unless if you mean you are considering xenoverse where he's spent years rebuilding and been scolded by a Kai who makes him pay for his selfish ways

He split the fabric of reality for his own desires, tried to fight dirty vs the lesser 17/18 who had done no wrong as he couldn't see the difference between the two and was willing to be judge and jury when Piccolo and Vegeta were more evil than the present variety, and was so concerned with veggies pride he held back the power to stop semi cell himself.

Really the closest thing you will find to a. Pure good guy with pure good intentions in dbz is Krillin. Everyone hangs 18 over his head, but they ignore he would have to kill an innocent person who hasn't hurt or killed anyone, thus becoming a murderer. He's the only one who shows up no matter what, travels space for his friend, keeps fighting after multiple deaths, never killed an innocent, and risks his life freely. Hell wah the only one to start as good

Goku needs to get punished for his downright sociopathic behavior during the Cell and Boo Arcs. Allowing an invincible murderous demon to be revived because he wants a fight? Psychotic. Abandoning his family and forcing two 2nd graders to clean up his mess? Psychotic. Giving a monster every advantage in a situation where there is a good chance that his son (and everyone else) could end up totally f***ing dead? Psychotic. Going into a battle that he doesn't know he can win and even then, not putting out any serious effort, despite the fight having universal importance? Psychotic (Vegeta is guilty of this too).
I love building PCs. If you have any questions about it feel free to ask. I can help you with almost any kind of PC you'd want to build.

Goku has gotten the population of Earth killed and the Earth destroyed because of his incompetence. Even then, he plays games with Freeza and Beers. As for Vegeta, remember in the Boo Saga when he came up with his horrible Spirit bomb plan to show that he trusted the Earthlings now? Remember the Bingo dance? And still he toys.

They both endanger their families and the Earth because they are too busy jacking their egos
He got people killed in the Boo arc because he left the fate of Earth in the hands of children. He's clearly learned not do that as he's the one fighting and not them anymore. Playing games with Beerus hasn't gotten anyone killed so there's not much of a lesson to learn there, and Goku's still learning not to play games with his opponents in Resurrection F, which is a sign of development. Realizing your not strong enough to do something does not negate pride. Vegeta very clearly expresses frustration with himself after preforming that song and dance. Also, Gohan would endanger everyone with his neglect for improvement, what's more, he's a boring character. Why anyone would take Gohan over Goku and Vegeta is beyond me.

Because Gohan isn't an a*****? Goku acts like a cocky prick around Beers despite what's at stake and generally acts like everything is a giant game. Vegeta is even worse at this. Gohan really didn't toy all that much barring the incident of SSJ2, even against Super Boo, the manga battle was rather short

Their faults make them interesting, though. What is interesting about Gohan? He'd be a complete bore.

I don't find them interesting by any means. I find them stupid and annoying to watch.

If the main character is acting unlikable, I can't like them. It's the same reason I take issue with Alucard. Goku and Vegeta are just douchey enough to be unlikable, but not immoral enough to be considered the cool villain type

Honestly, I couldn't give a s*** whether you like them or not right now. My question is how would Gohan being the main character benefit this franchise?

It wouldn't, which is why it would never happen. The franchise still sells with Goku and Vegeta as the main characters. Gohan doesn't have the background to establish himself.

Because he's more likeable.
That doesn't benefit the narrative, what's more, that doesn't tell me what's interesting about him.

Vegeta has shown he can at least temporarily throw away his pride since the buu saga. And goku isn't putting his faith in kids anymore. I don't see how they're completely devolving

This is such a subjective topic, my good sir.

I'd still like to hear what you think is interesting about his character.

I find him more interesting because he's more relatable. while he has had his fair share of mistakes, his mistakes are more relatable and acceptable in my opinion. For example, if some guy who hasn't worked a day in his life obtains $1 billion, I'm sure the money would change him in negative ways. He'd become more self conceited and not care about the outcome of others. Gohan is like this when he obtains new levels of power.

I also enjoy the fact that when he fights, he fights for a good cause. He doesn't fight to bump up his own ego, or to test his power. He fights to protect his friends as well as bigger stakes. This is something that Goku and Vegeta do not bring to the table.

I also enjoy how this makes Gohan unique. He is almost the reverse of a true Saiyan, despite being one himself. It makes him different from the rest.
