I see many fans use future Gohan avatar. But they dislike how Gohan came of age. Why did Akira Toriyama make Gohan different? |

Future Gohan is similar to future Trunks, a badass who also has compassion and cares for others and is willing to sacrifice everything. Ultimately these are the traits that appeal to most fans. Present Gohan grows too peaceful and is always, no matter how many boosts of power or years past, somehow caught lagging behind and needing others to pick him up. Future Gohan has that "lets get shi* done" attitude.

Who knows, I liked the Great Saiyaman arc myself, I'm in the minority that think Goku should have staid dead and the series should have ended with Gohan as the lead.

People seem to gravitate towards characters with 'rougher' edges. Future Gohan was hardened by what he went through, whereas regular Gohan always seemed a little...coddled, softer. Gohan's most popular moment is probably when he achieved SSJ2, which gave his personality more of an edge. Also, the scar definitely helps. Face scar = instant badass. |

That law seems to work for everyone, but Yamcha.

Nothing wrong with Yamcha (except everything that is wrong with Yamcha).

Which doesn't make sense. "Regular Gohan" went through tons of crazy stuff while growing up. -He witnessed his dad get brutally beat by his uncle. -He got his neck snapped by an alien bounty hunter. -He fought against a transforming, galactic emperor and saw his best friends get murdered on an alien planet. -He trained for years to prepare for the Androids. Everyone says Gohan never enjoyed fighting and preferred to study, but it's shown throughout the series that Gohan would much rather be training and getting stronger than studying. Then suddenly, out of nowhere, Gohan decides he doesn't like to fight when he's battling Cell. And even though he knew just how bad things could get and how quickly things could get there, he stops training completely so he can study. The change in character made no sense. |

I like both characters equally. They're just two versions of Gohan. One that lived life . The one who life is hell . Gohan Future is liked... I'm guessing because he's cool? I don't see much dislike for Current Gohan except on how he's written. I could be 100% wrong though

Also, consider that Future Son Gohan is actually a good deal (7 years?) older than Boo Saga Son Gohan.

I prefer present Gohan. Future Gohan was a Goku wannabe.

Future Gohan was a broken man. He lived a life constantly under fear. He obviously had far more incentive to train and have the warrior mindset than Present Gohan. |

Simply put, he was a badass warrior that wasn't scared to die to ensure peace.
