Is Namekian Regeneration overrated?

Izanagi!

Chapter: 286 (DBZ 92), P10.5
Context: after Nail regrows his arm
Freeza: “This is a surprise! So you can regenerate? But even though you’ve restored yourself, it changes nothing. Besides, it seems that you can’t recover your stamina. Your battle power has fallen from what it was before…”

One could attribute Nail's loss of stamina to the damage he took from Freeza's attack, but it could also be a result of his regeneration. If the latter is true, how practical is Namekian regeneration in a fight? Piccolo was able to use it against Cell because he had such a huge lead that the loss in stamina wouldn't change his superior position, but when it comes down to fights that are much more equal, would it really be a game-changer?

Yeah.

If non-Namekian loses their arm, they're writhing in pain and about to die in a matter of minutes.

If a Namekian loses their arm, they're more tired, but they aren't dying

They're aware of that weakness though. That's why piccolo was stalling cell. He waited long enough for his energy to regenerate as well as his arm. So when piccolo got his arm back against cell it made no difference to the situation. Nail didn't have the luxury regardless, he was always doomed to lose that fight because freeza was just bounds ahead of him. Nail knew that.

"Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the war room!"

It costs ki to regenerate, and because ki is lost, stamina doesn't recover. This is also likely why Namekians just can't endlessly regenerate, and they eventually hit a limit once their ki runs out and they can die if the damage is too extensive.

Even Cell fell victim to this ki loss when he regenerated his upper body. Goku stated that Cell's ki had fallen dramatically from what it was; however, Goku's was stated to be dropping faster.

I feel like it depends on where they regenerate, and how big is the damage given. Freeza ripped off part of Nail's arm in a pretty violent way. Back to when Raditz first came to Earth Piccolo could regenerate his whole arm with very little effort or struggle.

It also comes to mind that some namekians might be more used to take a lot of beatings in fights. Nail was the strongest of his race, he probably never encountered such an opponent like Freeza.

Piccolo: Just how many people have you sacrificed?!

Cell: Sacrifice? Hmph, rubbish! On the contrary, it is an honor to become a fraction of my power.

I don't lnow... Freeza took a note of it into his scouter because he was interested in learning it himself.

I think he can be. It's limited, takes time, and isn't on the level of regen in the next arc or the kne after that. I always took that as the author's message.

Piccolo regenerated when he was in tiny pieces so no I don't think it's overrated. Then again, that's a bit different. Like Darker said, it depends on the damage given maybe
