We know if the police catches you red handed with, they will arrest you. But why can't the police use 50 cents or jay-z music to arrest them, they talk about selling crack and in interviews they admit to it. |

What would be the point? They did it back when they were younger. They don't do it anymore and they have a better and improved life now. |

It's not illegal to say you've done it in the past. You have to be caught in possession. |

Police need this thing called probable cause to arrest someone. They need to first be able to prove that a crime (the drug dealing) actually happened, then they would have to prove that a particular person was engaged in this specific crime. I can say I murdered someone on national news right now and without proof that someone has died of unnatural causes or had a suspicious death, I couldn't be arrested. |

It's mainly related to the fact that just saying you sell drugs inside a song isn't enough evidence. They can say they're just appealing to the youth or something like that. Not all rappers that say the sell actually sell, and those that do really know how to keep it on the DL. |

I remember reading something about a rapper being arrested because of lyrics bragging about killing someone. The lyrics were excluded from the court case, I think because he claimed he was just making things up/exaggerating for the sake of the song. |

I understand, but the police can use what the rapper say as evidence. "Anything you say or do will use against in the court of a law" Its not just the lyrics, they go on talk shows, mtv interviews talk about dealing drugs in the past, don't you think if thy killed somebody in the past and talked about, wouldn't the police use that as evidence? as far as i know, both jay-z and 50 cent sold drugs in the past. |

No, as far as you know, Jay Z and 50 Cent have both SAID they have sold drugs in the past. They can claim that they only said those things so that they would sell more records, the same way comedians will say things just to get a laugh. Song lyrics do not count as a confession because they are likely to be fabricated. There's a rapper, Rick Ross, who claimed he sold drugs etc and was then found out to be lying. Every rapper can just point to that case and say "yeah, I was lying like Rick Ross". |

As a few guys have pointed out, saying you've done something and then catching people (with binding evidence) is another thing. You'll see that a lot of celebs/rappers actually have been sent down before now and in the past, I believe rapper Nelly may have just been picked up on some crazy charges actually, all because without the evidence there is no reason to do anything. |

If you'd ever heard Eminem's Relapse album I'd think you should realise that words on an album mean absolutely nothing in a court room unless it's a personal case of harassment or serious verbal attacks. Likewise, interviews are not evidence because if someone is being interviewed, it's for promotional reasons. 50 Cent doesn't show up on MTV because he feels like having a chat, it's either an interview to promote a product or to get some more ratings for the channel. In fact, there have been many, many interviews throughout history that are scripted and written by the showrunner or someone working for the artist with things like that written in them just to get attention. |
