Whis must have trained Beerus at some point. Otherwise what's the point in him?

This is also true.

It could be before Beerus assumed the role of God of Destruction, too.

Either beerus was a God of destruction in training or something or the line is just referring to how bad he and buu are

Beers doesn't seem the type to train. He does horribly whenever his power is challenged in the slightest

He had to have to trained at some point though. Doesnt matter though since the line could be referring to how bad beerus is compared to buu

Beerus didn't do badly. He was holding everything back and fought pretty evenly with Goku. Skill and technique wise Goku has every advantage in every fight. He's a saiyan, so he has natural instinct and the perfect physiology for fighting, plus he's had the very best training all over the universe. Beerus did just fine against him I think.

He didn't fight evenly. He was losing in their last aerial joust when comparing the hits delivered and the fact he was forced back. Beers's ki techniques were also lack luster, either ki blast spamming or giant power balls

I think Beerus had an advantage in the fight. When they're in space Beerus even fights with his hands behind his back a lot of the time, a pretty clear sign of someone who is in control of a fight.

At 0:35, it does look like his hands are behind his back. But if you slow it down, you'll realize he does raise them to block. In fact, in the next cut, he has them raised but is too slow to stop Goku from slugging him in the jaw. Beers had a power advantage as well to fall back on.

And Piccolo comments on how Beerus is training Goku.

King Kai trained Goku as well, do you think King Kai does any training for himself?

Beerus was holding back and Goku was getting stronger than he expected.

He was holding back while he was screaming loudly and looking pissed off? I get that it's possible to not use your max power and do that, but it just calls into question Beers's logic.

I see it as either Beerus was always the god of destruction and watched over by Whis or was trained to that level by Whis. I just can't imagine those two living together for centuries withiut some sort of training happening.
