Why does Nintendo get a free pass all the time?

Greetings. I will be your waifu this season.

EA does something stupid, everyone hates them.
Ubisoft releases a a broken game, everyone hates them.
Activision release a copy and paste game with DLC, everyone hates them.

Nintendo monetize EVERYTHING about their games, nobody bats an eye 'cause pfft, Nintendo can do no wrong.

I am of course referring to the stupid YouTube policies they for no logical reason at all decided to invoke.

Someone like Pewdiepie, AngryJoe, Ghostrobo, RadBrad, Markiplier plays your game people are going to buy it just because they played it and painted it in a positive light if it deserves it(which apparently every Nintendo game does)

Huge amount of ad revenue from popular YouTubers.

But if they upload videos of the games they paid for they get taken down and/or get money taken from them...for advertising Nintendo's games which the YouTubers themselves pay for.
Not only do they get money before the advertising they get money due to it and have elected to stop that.

How stupid is this?

If you go out and buy Mario Party 10 and four other controllers for your friends if you decide to upload that video it's going to get taken down.
You've just paid Nintendo like £200 or more and can't share your experience and tell people they should buy the game.

Why is it completely fine for Nintendo to do this but if any other games company does anything wrong they get s*** on? s*** on and compared to Nintendo, the shining gold knight of the gaming industry perfect in all ways.

Are they ridiculously afraid of bad press or something? Even though their games pretty much always get great reviews and praise.

I don't know if they're stupidly greedy or just plain stupid.

Not sure what you're talking about. I've done loads of Nintendo games for Youtube and they're all still there.

I watch Nintendo game reviews all the time, reviews as old as 10 years and they're still there. I'm with Pelador, I'm not sure what you're talking about

My Dear Melancholy,

They tweaked the policy a tiny bit.
http://www.forbes.com/sites/insertcoin/2015/02/06/nintendo-updates-their-bad-youtube-policies-by-making-them-worse/

But I don't see anything changing. Maybe in a year or two I'll see the difference. I never hate on companies as I find it disrespectful but I see Nintendo hate every now and then. They're not exempt from it.

Well they take down plenty of videos maybe not older ones but new ones they do.

AngryJoe had a video of him and a few friends playing the new Mario Party having a lot of fun, the only time anything negative was said at all was when Joe as Bowser was going to catch the others and that negativity was "No no no dammit!"

Beyond that they showed how much fun the game can be and the video was taken down within an hour or so.

They don't even have to say why either just say it's a copyright claim.

It's just ridiculous some companies actually pay people to playtest and thus advertise their game, it's good business.

Do they not want sales or something? The Wii-U isn't far over 9 million units sold in over 2 years meanwhile the X1 has over 10 million as of December last year and PS4 over 20 million as of March.

If they bought in to the loyalty people have to popular YouTubers there'd be a ton more sales.

I guess because that example you gave for Nintendo affects almost nobody, only people who want to make let's plays on Youtube, and even then it's only a minor thing that has nothing to do with the game itself. While the examples for other companies affect everybody who buys their games, and the negative is much greater.

No they don't. Nintendo doesn't take down any of the videos of their games uploaded to Youtube. They take the ad revenue for the games from modern era, but leave it for games from the 90s (afaik).

To add on:

People do complain about Nintendo, you just have to look in the right places. Many Youtubers gets incredibly annoyed at Nintendo for taking ad revenue from them. They aren't trying to take credit for what Nintendo has made, they only want to share their love for Nintendo's video games.

As for comparing EA and Ubisoft to Nintendo, you really can't. Nintendo doesn't make a bad game and if the games are buggy they fix it very quickly. They haven't released any expensive DLCs that are completely necessary to the game either.

And the games aren't complete copies of previous games such as CoD and Assassin's Creed.

Because at least Nintendo puts out good games. They could release ten characters dlc for smash all at 10 euros and I'd buy all of them.

I'm bias though.

You missed the point there.

If any of those do something bad everyone vilifies them but if Nintendo do something bad only a few people by comparison complain.

You're looking the the wrong places then.

The Nintendo Wii U has had a lot of negative flack since the beginning for not being modern enough etc. Surely you can't have missed it?

Pretty much all of Nintendo's DLC is additional content that was obviously made after the game was completed. You can play all of Nintendo's games without thinking that there's something essential that's missing without DLC, like MK8. It's still an amazing game in its own right, and one can enjoy the game immensely without ever thinking that they need to DLC to complete that experience.

Nintendo have done something bad with their approach to Youtube and the backlash for that has been absolutely humongous.

Well, as far as doing something "bad" goes the feedback for the whole Youtube farce has been all over the place and it completely trumps what EA and Ubisoft have ever done.

But in comparison to other companies' games, Nintendo has had it just as bad.

I always hear about this, yet i've seen tons of Nintendo let's plays. Pretty much all let's plays I watch are of Nintendo games (granted I don't watch LP's that much). So I don't know where this rumor came from.

This is a video from AngryJoe in which he tells the public that Nintendo is asking for a large fee so AngryJoe can use his gameplay footage and share it to the public.

To be fair, I don't see how Nintendo is being excluded from the conversation since EA is thrown under the bus for doing almost the exact same things Nintendo is doing.

I agree with Steve. We shouldn't give Nintendo a free pass because they saved the game industry in the 80's with Mario Bros and Zelda.

Jaffe isn’t sure whether it’s greed to motivates Nintendo but again thinks it a rather dumb program

They still make games for kids and grandmothers and charge full price like its next generation game.

Besides Zelda, Mario Bros, Yoshi land and maybe Mario Kart, what else had Nintendo developed?

Fatal Frame 4 and 5, Resident Evil Zero, the remake of the first game and Resident Evil 4. The Metroid Prime games, Monster Hunter Tri and Monster Hunter 4, Eternal Darkness, Conker's Bad Fur Day, The Dragon Quest series, Fire Emblem, Advance Wars, James Bond: Golden Eye, the first six Final Fantasy games, Etrian Odyssey, Xenoblade Chronicles, The Donkey Kong games, Dragonball Z: Hyper Dimension, Dragonball Z: Attack of the Saiyans, The Legacy of Goku series, The Golden Sun series, Ace Attorney and Chrono Trigger.

I stopped because this list was going to get too big.
