Was it ever scary?

Imma say no, because of how ridiculous some of the deaths. Apparently all humans are made Jell-o

Plus everything on the planet seems to have a domino effect when it breaks. It's not enough for a drinking glass to just break. The shard has to fly up and knock something off a shelf which then drops onto a precariously placed fork which then launches into an exposed wire which then creates a spark that sets something nearby on fire causing someone to panic and trip over a roller skate and fall out of an open window and onto spiked fence below.

It begs the question of why Death doesn't just give them some horrible disease by altering air flow so a bacteria flies in their direction. Is Death just bored as Hell and wants to play Mousetrap? Furthermore, the fact that Death is a sentient beings seems so odd. The same Death who brutally slaughters people painfully also lets people die peacefully of old age?

I like the movies (2nd is boring), but they are extremely hard to buy into, at least in later sequels. I watched the third one a while ago and it was just, "Really? That could've been so easily prevented..." The tanning bed scene comes to mind as something that wasn't difficult to get out of; all the girls had to do was push the shelf out of one bed so they could open the cover and get to the other bed. Things like that make it harder to suspend my disbelief.

But no, they're not scary. The first one is spooky, but the rest are too campy.

Greetings. I will be your waifu this season.

Well it never says sentient it just says Death is more of a "force" and the way it works is that it kills people who were supposed to die but evaded their fate.

No word on why they get the vision though.

I think it was a cool idea that could have been really scary but instead of fleshing it out they just went with gore porn.

The inevitability of it was freaky but outweighed by the stupidness of the accidents and the characters and the whole who's next in line thing.

No, Death is sentient as per the Final Destination comics...though in those comics Death is also a puff of smoke, so yeah.

Death was never seen in the movies. It was always just an invisible "force" that started s*** and gave people the cold shoulder.

The movies are fun just because the characters are annoying and you want them to die. Sadly the weakest point of the movies is the fact that they're all the same. It's like watching the SAW movies without progression and characters.

They're very predictible, but at least the deaths pay off, as they're quite funny.

Piccolo: Just how many people have you sacrificed?!

Cell: Sacrifice? Hmph, rubbish! On the contrary, it is an honor to become a fraction of my power.

Random fact: The director of Final Destination 2 went on to make one of the most classic movies of all time...

Dragonball: Evolution

No, I never found them to be scary. The first is well done, but overall they are just goregasm movies. They exist to put over the top death scenes on the big screen.

It truly was a Shawshank redemption

I enjoyed the movies, they were a lot of fun, but nah, it's not scary (and that's coming from someone who scares easily when it comes to horror films). Scary films for me create atmosphere and tension, get you on edge because it brings you into the film and makes you experience it as if you were there, whereas FD is more like 'hey, look at all these creative ways we can kill off characters'.

"Let's kill a guy with a barbed wire fence!"

Would be cool if they rebooted it sometime with actual horror in mind but gore porn is still the thing so, not likely.

To be fair, I can see the barbed wire killing someone. I just can't see it slicing through them so cleanly that it makes Walter's strings look like a rusty kitchen knife
