Do you consider The Godfather and Goodfellas to be amoung the greatest movies of all-time?

According to IMDb, both these movies are highly rated.

My question is,

1. Do you consider them to be the greatest crime/mafia movie of all time?
2. Is the Godfather and Goodfellas over-rated?
3. If there is a better action/crime/mafia movie, can you name them?

I can't think of many mob films more brilliant than those.

I like Goodfellas a lot more than I like the Godfather. I don't consider either to be over rated. I genuinely think of them both as master pieces.

They are both classics. I am partial to Goodfellas myself. The way Scorsese shot it to move like a 2 hour commercial and the story behind it... It really doesn't get much better than that.

Greetings. I will be your waifu this season.

Never seen Goodfellas but I find all the Godfathers to be incredibly boring, tedious movies.

I don't get why they're held in such high regard.

Whenever I ask people why the response is almost always "Because...BECAUSE THEY'RE CLASSIC MOVIES" as if people don't actually like them and just think they should adore them for some reason, people barely ever reference good scenes or quotes to back up why the movies are excellent.

I'm not saying a movie has to have shootouts, explosions, swordfights, aliens, racing etc every scene to be enjoyable but f*** the Godfather movies are just...dull.

Can sum it up with "people sit around talking, sometimes they walk around talking and very occasionally sometimes people get shot or die some other way"

Nothing that happens in the movies is engaging to me at all.

But when you voice that, you're suddenly Judas or something...
Much like in Family Guy:

You should watch Goodfellas then. There isn't much dragging out.

Goodfellas has a better script. Godfather tells a better story.

Steve, I tell you a film you'd probably hate if the Godfather isn't your thing. Once upon a time in New York. It's like four hours long. I liked it the first watch but I didn't have any patience to do it again.

I don't mind long movies I just hate it when it's like 5% action 10% cool scenes 85% forgettable wastes of time.

Like Lord of the Rings, I can marathon all 9+ hours of that just fine because it's consistently enaging.

I dunno, with Godfather maybe I just expected more because it's always talked about as the best movie ever. Can't remember if I had really high expectations watching it the first time but probably, not sure why I'd watch it otherwise.

Pretty sure I watched Scarface after too so didn't come away thinking "still prefer Scarface"
It wasn't dulled down by a superior movie with similar themes.

They're both good movies but also way overrated. They don't deserve to be in the IMDB top 20; there are many better movies.

That's Once Upon a Time in America. I feel like I need to correct you because it's one of my all-time favorite movies. The thing with this movie is that it needs the 4 hours to be great. Cut more than 30 minutes and it falls drastically in quality.

As for OP, Goodfellas was a great movie. The acting was superb and the story told was great. The Godfather is also a good movie, but I prefer The Godfather II. I haven't bothered seeing the third one yet.

Can you name a couple of movies that you think are better than The Godfather and GoodFellas?

Star Wars Empire Strike Back? The Shawshank Redemption?

or better, name 20 movies you think are better than The Godfather.

Virtually everything I've seen in the top 30 at least I've enjoyed like ten times as much as all the Godfathers really.

I haven't watched Goodfellas. I've seen Godfather. Pretty good, but it's not my kind of film.

It's a masterpiece for those who like it. For me Rock 'n' Rule is a masterpiece. But for many people, it's not.

Piccolo: Just how many people have you sacrificed?!

Cell: Sacrifice? Hmph, rubbish! On the contrary, it is an honor to become a fraction of my power.

I understand everybody has there own tastes and opinions, but really?

How is 12 Angry Men better than The Godfather in story, actors performance?

Inception, Seven Samurai and Forrest Gump?

Can you explain why you choose them over the Godfather?
