So... what? The reason I say this is because nothing stated in these videos is things that I haven't had to do before. I've worked upwards of a 65 hour work week, and it was for over a year; and even though I'll admit that it was pretty tiring, I wasn't "so exhausted" that I fell asleep on the job. And I was standing for upwards of 8 hours straight per day. This isn't uncommon in the US for service workers to work the same amount of hours for the same (lack of) benefits. Some of them work the same amount of hours between two or three jobs. The only real difference is that now with Obamacare, all companies (over 50 people employed) are required to provide health insurance to its employees; when before it was only required to do it for people who worked 40 hours per week. Same with sick time and vacation time. So I'm just going to say "suck it up, buttercup." There's plenty of people in developed nations who work the same amount of hours as well. Which companies in America allows workers to work that long without any benefits? Also what is their pay like? |

McDonald's; which shouldn't surprise you. The corporate ones weren't too bad, but the privately owned ones (both of the ones I worked for) were borderline slave work. The second one was worse than the first one, but the first one was just as bad with their practices of wage theft. If I was going into overtime, they actually wanted me to punch out and work for several hours off the clock. If I refused, they would dock my hours for the following week. One time the power went out, and they refused to let us leave. We cleaned the whole time. However, due to the power being out, we couldn't prove that we actually were there (due to the time clock being out of commission), so I didn't get paid for 5 hours of work. I constantly stole food from this one for obvious reasons. The second McDonald's I worked at was where I consistently worked five 12 hour shifts, and one eight hour shift per week with a single-half hour break (which usually was broken up and not a straight 30 minutes), which was usually two or three hours into my shift (leaving eight and a half hours of straight work on the twelve hour days). Even though I averaged 60-70 hour weeks there, my job description was "part time" (which was bullsh*t), so they weren't actually required to give me benefits like vacation time, sick time, or anything of the sort. The only benefit we had was health insurance, which was sh*t. Didn't cover anything. Mind you, this was before Obamacare where they weren't actually required to provide us with health insurance. 50% off food from the store whenever we worked. Those were the only two benefits. No sick time or vacation time. Standing constantly on concrete floor, no AC, no time or opportunity to eat during the eight hours that I had to work straight, and very little time to go to the facilities. I don't know why I didn't quit those jobs earlier. I don't blame the people who work at McDonald's for wanting $15/hr, but there's always different jobs they can find. They're not stuck there without any options. Pay at both places was minimum wage, maybe barely above it. Edited by Ketchup Revenge, Sep 13 2016, 09:16 PM.
