1. Have you always known about these kind of treatment that goes on in China? 2. Would this change your mind about buying their products? 3. Do you even care about what's going on? http://www.news.com.au/technology/gadgets/shock-footage-bbc-panorama-report-shows-apple-workers-treated-like-prisoners/story-fn6vihic-1227245536479 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kSvT02q4h40 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1UyutXOjmyo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7syxOmm9H4Q |

Panorama is a scaremongering program. They go out of their way to make things look far worse than they actually are. That being said, I am well ware of the human rights abuses and lack of workers rights in China. It's something only China can fix. |

Would it really kill people to have a shortage of Apple products if that meant workers in China don't have to work like slaves? |

No but...greed. Greed would make people go crazy if they couldn't buy new phones, computers and whatnot as easily the crappy working conditions in China keep the rest of the world stable if production rates suddenly halted things would go bad. Look through your house and see how many things say "Made in China" on them, probably almost half of everything you own. Unless some of you actively avoid products from China for whatever reason. With a population exceeding a billion it's hard to see what they could do about it really. They could get workers to work less hours and have unemployed people take over some of the time...but then they'd have to start lowering wages and people would probably need second jobs to support their family, if they didn't already have a second job to begin with. There isn't really a single solution that would greatly benefit China or it's people. If production was started in other countries the economy in China would get worse the world wouldn't need them as much. |

Companies have always found a way to by-pass the system. Apple not only off-shores their labor to China, they have a off-shore account in Ireland to avoid business taxes. |

There is more slavery today then there has ever been in the history of the world. Many of those slaves work in China making products for the United States and the rest of the world. |

That's not slavery, since they are getting paid. They're just not getting paid much. Slavery does still exist in the world and it's primarily in Africa, the Middle East, and West Asia as far as working without pay goes. Sexual slavery exists all over the world, from Columbia to Britain to China to the U.S. |

I would argue wage slavery is still slavery and that is largely what is happening in China. |

Consumers is ultimately the reason why companies offshore because we demand cheaper products and to make things in your countries would equal higher prices dues to labor costs. |

I think it is time for a revolution to happen in China. Honestly when workers get treated like trash then they will start to perform worse. You have dozens of factory workers making pennies an hour while getting treated like dirt, yet you have the iniquitous owner sitting around smoking cigarettes all day just yelling at his workers. The workers will get tried of it. In the next 20 years China will be different. |

I've seen a video documenting this abuse a while back. There are many who know about this but it seems they only fight equal rights if it's happening in their country (speaking of the US). As an above poster said, this can only be fixed by China. This is indeed true, however, the more publicity into an activity the more susceptible it will be to change. But like others have said, since this is a problem in a far away country the publicity to expose this is unlikely. |

Companies around the world use labour like that (in a lot of other countries also) knowing they mighy be treated and paid badly....more profits for them ofc. So really it's not just the chinese government that can do something (with fines/prison sentences), since it's not the government the manufacturing orders come from. |

If it's not slavery because they're getting paid, then a lot of the "slavery" you claim in the Middle East doesn't exist, lol. Talking about the gulf countries, but it should be the same in most of the ME countries. |
