if toph yould somehow sandbend...Gaara is finished.
She needs time and move to bend anything, and she's not nearly as proficient in sand bending compared to her earth bending.

Honestly, this individual puts it best.

James LeBlanc

1) Reaction time - This really wasn't addressed by DB and really should have been. However, Toph was able to sense a mans movement, and send an attack 30-40ft away, before he could place his foot down. Not sure how fast that is.. but it's fast. Also, DB didn't depict her as being able to avoid all attacks, he did get her with sand burial (which is basically all he ever does to his opponents). So it really is a moot point. His "attacks" are all catching his opponent and are not deadly in and of themselves.

2) Living sand--- it is a fair point to ask if Toph can bend a living sand, and blood bending is a good comparison. However while blood bending is difficult, metal bending was thought to be IMPOSSIBLE. It is a safe assumption that Toph can bend living sand, even if it is a very advanced skill, after all Toph is "the greatest" in her world

3) Tiny control - Dude, she can sense a person a world away! .. that is insanely particular, also she built a detailed model of a city with a foot stomp and she controls metal specifically by identifying the tiny particles in it. So your simply wrong, or have no reason to doubt the point.

4) There really is no reason to think that Gaara doesn't use his sand armor the whole time. So it is not a wrong assumption. ...

4A) Gaara could fly away... Yes.. he could, and retreat isn't something you want to see in a DB. So it's a moot point. I also think this is indicative of your wrong thinking.

5) Surviving sand coffin - To me the whole fight hinged on this, because it is literally the only way Gaara kills people (or at the very least his favorite) I do think that bending +armor = survive Sand coffin..

6) there are of course things that were not depicted, for example there is no reason that Toph couldn't have sank into the ground, and fought Garaa from out of his sight. She could have dodged his tsunami in this way as well. Also, she could have sank him the moment the fight started. Lastly the most ridiculous thing shown was Gaara jumping to avoid an attack. He never does that. he doesn't move, even if a sword is headed for his brain.. he will stair it down and let the sand defend him, and if the attack is powerful enough it would just kill him. In the end, Toph is the much more varied fighter, she has more powerful control over the elements, and is tough enough to survive. Also.. his weapon is literally her specialty (earth). There is no doubt that she could out last his chakara, because she has no such limit. The moment the fight starts there is an absolute timer to Gaara's defeat(Ie chakara limit), where no such timer exists for Toph.

Wasn't Toph able to sense people from across the world in Korra? They used her A:TLA character, right?

A few other points;

Gaara never would've used the sand sphere that he used in Part 1. The only reason he used it against Sasuke was because he was buying time to unleash 'Mother', Shukaku, and he only used it against Deidara because of his powerful his explosions were. Toph showed nothing to scare Gaara into his sphere, so him using it to 'buy time' is completely illogical; his auto-sand was doing a fine job at blocking whatever Toph threw at him.

Gaara was able to make a Sand clone in an instant while being caught by Lee in the initial stage of the Primary Lotus. Kakashi caught it with his Sharingan, but nobody else saw what happened. Gai closed his eyes for a second or two and completely missed the switch. Gaara had more time here, yet he didn't even try to, which seems completely ridiculous.

By Part 2, Gaara's auto-sand was able to react to a knife Sasuke had infused with Lightning Chakra, as well as Amaterasu, iirc. Point is, it's waaaaa~aaay faster than in Part 1, where it was still keeping up quite well with Lee's speed, who's ridiculously fast.

At the Kage Summit, after Gaara stops A from attacking Sasuke for a second time.

Eh no Gaara can do way more than that he just rarely has to. Do you not know how much pressure the coffin exerts? It completely crushes people down to the bone his sand reeks of blood in part one because he mashes people up with it it's not like he suffocates them he smashes them in to pulp.

Gaara's sand armour is never off that is completely wrong his mothers will protects him at all times automatically.

Gaara's sand is massively more powerful and versatile he can use it to withstand attacks from Kimmimaro even his hardest bone on C2. His basic bones were strong enough to cut kunai's no attack of Toph's could penetrate that.

Toph needs to do all those hand movements and whatnot Gaara can just float like 100m away and send a constant barrage of attacks at her and grind up the whole landscape.

There is just no way she can constantly bend all that away as I said before how can she do the arm movements while drowning in sand?

And as said on a physical level he clearly destroys her even though he's one of the weaker characters physically, he should still have basic shinobi equipment could just cut her up with a kunai.

The sand sphere part shows they were just playing favourites they made Gaara a complete fool in that fight.
Also reaction speeds do jack if you can't do anything to what's coming at you and sensing people a world away is irrelevant what would it do for her in this fight?

Honestly I was kinda surprised that Toph won. I figured Gaara's master control vs Toph's master control would cancel each other out and it'd be left to hand to hand, which Gaara's ninja training would be put and edge up for. And also I don't remember Toph being quite as over the top and capable of erecting several huge stones and pillars at once. But if they used Kazekage Gaara, it was only fair to use Grand Master Toph, even though they used her Book 2 Sprite. Ultimately it made sense. I honestly think Gaara would have won, but I understand how they came to the conclusion.

I have no idea why it says you're name :o_O:

I think I quoted someone else or something else then deleted it and pasted theirs in idk.

But yeah, rarely care for Death Battle anymore. It was cool how they showed just how much Superman would mess Goku up(not that people will ever agree on that) but the rest of the fights are full of nonsensical crap and half the time it's the current cool character that wins.

Avatar is more popular in the west than Naruto ergo Avatar wins...

That fight wasn't fair at all too, the Superman vs Goku, tbh. Goku could have won, but nope.

Trust me, Steve, Gaara would have mopped the floor with her the instant the fight begins.

Goku can only fly at above Mach 2.5 and lift more than 40 tons. Superman can't lose when he can move faster than light and lift 5 quintillion tons (or whatever).

All the stupid calculations DB did were just w***. The fight should never have been done. It's a clear mismatch.

Didn't Goku pick up a small city in GT?

But back to the plot, why all the death battle hate? Goku vs Superman, Toph vs Gaara, hell all the Hurt for Majin Buu vs Hoshi No Kabii. You guys know this is a cartoon about cartoons and videogames fighting other cartoons and video games right? And honestly, does anyone here HAVE a degree in any science? I have a BS in Physics from CU do yeah I'll nit pick a few calcs, but honestly their science is pretty solid.

Goku is clearly faster than light and can obviously lift way more than 40 tons. I'm pretty sure they used Post-Crisis Supes who's not even remotely close to that level.

Post-Crisis Supes is like around planet level. He's nowhere even near close to Base Goku who's multi-solar system+ level. Bear in mind I'm only using the manga Goku.

@TheACE,

Gaara is much faster, far durable, and a lot stronger than her. What do you expect from her to do then? She can bend sand slowly and has to move to do so, and she's not even as fluent in sand bending compared to her earth bending.

Gaara blitzes and Sand Coffins her. GG.
