What happened to the Watchowskis?; From Matrix to Jupiter Ascending

With Jupiter Ascending getting ready to release, the reviews have started to come out as well. The few that I have read were not complimentary. Its the usual "great effects but poor story" criticism. I had high hopes for this film, that the Watchowskis would get back the groove they had with the first Matrix movie, but it looks like that is not the case.

What's your take on the Watchowskis? Do you enjoy a number of their movies or just the first Matrix? How did they loose their magic?

Edit: I still like them and believe they are talented filmmakers. They've just had a lot of duds to be sure.

I wonder if they reached a point after the Matrix where people respected them too much to question their ideas? I've heard that can happen. James Cameron and Steven Spielberg are two examples where people are too afraid to tell them that they have a bad idea.

Dare I say George Lucas as well?

In the case of both the original Star Wars and The Matrix, they spent years writing and rewriting the script. It took draft after draft to get it right, until the studio gave them the green light. After those films made a boat load of money, yeah, I can't imagine they got too much resistance for further projects. Sometimes criticism can be a good thing.
