Yeah yeah another thread about the moon busting blasts. Anyway, how far does the moon look like it is from the earth?Posted Image
I know we settled that it's not 186,000 miles since boss rabbit is on it breathing and there's pieces of the moon that we can see falling on their krillin and yamcha's heads when roshi blew it up. But it looks pretty far still for the pieces to have been hitting the earth that quick

I think you've missed the boat that it's gag comedy. It's there simply for entertainment.

It's not supposed to make sense.

Yeah the whole boss rabbit thing I don't like to take seriously but a lot of people do anyways What about the pieces of the moon that fell on their heads when roshi blew it up though?

Edit: the pieces of the moon and how close to the moon looks should still be considered even if boss rabbit is a gag

I don't remember that bit. Do you have a scan off-hand?

I don't have a scan right now sorry :/ but what I did just think of is piccolos moon busting feat. There's no rubble from the moon falling there. We only saw it when roshi did it. I think that's important to consider too

Another thing toriyama said in an interview that the moon is 186,000 miles from the earth. He said it was because of the boss rabbit scene. So it's a gag scene yeah but toriyama takes it into account still to determine how far the power pole can extend

I just always considered that part of the Tenkaichi Budokai building because the building was destroyed as well as the wall surrounding the ring.

Well here's the thing. People try to measure the speed of Roshi's blast based on the distance between the Earth and the moon. We know that Toriyama most likely wasn't thinking of anything of the sort. The only reason this scene is brought up is to keep DB/Z competitive in other versus threads. So if we're gonna go that deep and ignore what was most likely the authors intentions, we can also use the moon rubble that went straight onto the head's of Krillin and Yamcha (and it went straight down, didn't come from an angle as if it came from the surroundings). We can also use Boss Rabbit's breathing on the moon as if the moon was close enough to borrow oxygen from the Earth's atmosphere.

What do we make of there not being any rubble falling when piccolo blew up the moon though?

There was rubble, but it was more ambiguous as if it could have come from Gohan destroying the surroundings.

But there's rubble from when Kame-Sennin blew up the moon. That could've been from the tournament scene, but that doesn't make sense based on the events.

The moon is clearly too far away to be "borrowing atmosphere from Earth".

I don't recall this rubble business, but I am merely going to say that Piccolo's moon-busting was more potent and completely vaporized the moon.

Good point, I was reading it the wrong direction on the earlier page. I'm not sure, but it doesn't discredit the earlier rubble.

Out of curiosity, is that wind from the destruction of the moon? If it was really as far away as it is in the real world, would blowing it up cause that effect?

Maybe it just means that piccolo completely vaporized the moon and roshi shattered it?
