Right, I must've just imagined Gohan trying to talk Cell out of fighting. He made it obvious that he didn't want to fight. In the Boo Arc, he was just happy that Goku was back and went along with it. If he actually liked to fight, why wouldn't he have trainrd trained at all during the 7 year gap?
Two different times. A time where Gohan didn't want to fight and a time where he actually enjoyed it. Don't tell me he just "tagged along" because Goku was there, because if that was the case he wouldn't go through the trouble of getting a superhero costume so he could fight crime.
Fighting crime is completely different from fighting a strong opponent. Again, why wouldn't he train if he suddenly developed this love of fighting after Goku died?

Chi-Chi forbade him and made him study. That's a perfectly good explanation.

Yet she let Goten train? Gohan said that she'd changed after Goku died, and he only found that out when training for the Budokai, so he obviously never pushed the issue. If he liked fighting, why would he push Chi-Chi allow him to train?

She didn't foresee Goten being a scientist or whatever, and on top of that Gohan himself wanted to study and get a good job.

I honestlty don't care about this issue anymore because the Boo arc itself proves that Gohan enjoys fighting, regardless of Goku being there or not.

Wasn't Goku the one who had to clean up Gohan's mess? If Gohan destroyed Cell earlier, Goku would've stayed alive, but instead he choosed to sacrifice himself so the people on Earth can live in peace.

Gohan lives with Goten and Chi Chi in peace, and Goku lives with them in spirit.

Poor Goten, not having his mother's faith.

It doesn't even matter. Unless Goku couls see into the future, he should be under the assumption that Gohan doesn't like to fight, shown by both Piccolo and Gohan at the Cell Games. Yet, under this assumption, he pushes the role of Earth's protector on his son.

Maybe Gohan's behaviour as a SSJ2 jagged his observation of his son? Hell if I know.

Why in spirit? He can't honestly believe that he's the sole reason for everything bad that had happened and the catalyst for everything that can happen. Even if that were the case, wouldn't it be better for him to train with his friends on Earth and help them get stronger instead of leaving them to do it themselves? He wanted to train in Otherworld more than he wanted to be with his family. If he wanted to actually protect them, he'd come back to life and make an active attempt to not attract trouble.

He's a really poor judge of character in that case.

I've never seen Goku get so much hate in my life. It's so funny, because it's either that or he's worshipped the hell out of. No middle ground.

In the manga/anime Goku is portrayed as a selfless saiyan who had nothing else in mind than his friends, family and Mother Earth. This is never contradicted, aside from an 'oops-moment' in the Boo arc. Why would Gohan be mad at Goku for always putting Earth ahead of anything else? By the time he flies off with Oob, his family is all grown up and can take care of themselves. He even says he'll visit.
I think i'm in the middle ground. Goku's my No.2 favorite character only behind Future Trunks.

Be that as it may, it doesn't make him a bad parent or a bad person.

When Piccolo knows your kid better than you, you know you're a bad parent.

That's to be expected when Piccolo spent a year training Gohan.

Besides, Piccolo isn't evil for most of DBZ.

He knew that about Gohan, who's to say he knew more about the kid than Goku? Making assumptions here.

Are you forgetting the year Goku spent training with Gohan in the RoSaT?

Piccolo being evil has nothing to do with it. Goku has known his son for much longer than Piccolo, yet Piccolo is the one who knows more about him.

@Emmeth - So Goku had no idea about Gohan's thoughts and feelings but knows more about Gohan because...?

He was there for Gohan in his first 4 years.
