Not sure if anyone remembers this sample of badass here (Speaking of which, Saber you still owe me a book report) but this was the Star Wars game talk. I figure since they're releasing an offical third Battlefront Game now, we should totally have a talk and hype thread for it. I know Dragonball is the big thing around here, but I do know that we have a pretty big Star Wars fandom here too. So, yeah here we go. Star Wars Battlefront 2015. What are we hyped to see?

Should be pretty fun, but it might just be Battlefield 4 with lasers all over it. Probably with a bit of Titanfall splashed in their for good measure.

If it lets you play as a Jedi, there could be some room for innovation there. Also I could see it having some interesting gravity mechanics. Oh, and space battles could be pretty awesome.

You played Battlefront II right? That was nearly 10 years ago, but it was one badass mother loving game! But Jedi are traditionally playable. If the original Free Radical Alpha found here rings true, we're in for one hell of a game!

I have played BF2. I'm just hoping that the new one keeps some of what was unique about it, instead of just following the leader like so many shooters these days.

That video you linked is from the canceled Battlefront 3 game. The one that's actually coming out will be something different and by a different studio.

Greetings. I will be your waifu this season.

Yeah I hope it's the same and has all the stages from the old ones, expanded of course.

I think it would be great if we could have either 32 on 32 or 16 on 16 matches with AI droids/soldiers on each side, sorta like the grunts in Titanfall but hopefully less useless.
Just to make it feel like an actual war.

Plus you could be a squad leader and command some dudes. Or perhaps that could be something you unlock mid battle for capturing bases etc?

There's so much potential for this game, I really hope they don't mess it up and make playing as Jedi's too "killstreaky"

I remember how fun it was playing BF2 and using cheats to have infinite Jedi/Sith time :D
Or just being the same soldier for like a full hour without dying.

Third person is an absolute must I think.
First could potentially be cool though but both should be there in that case.

Dude I would love a return of 64 player multiplayer like in BF II for PC! What I'd really love is Wingmen for the Space Battles and tighter controls for the Space Flight. Granted Battlefront II did a much better job of the aerial controls than BFI did, but I'm thinking something Rogue Squadron-ish.

What about the Ground to Space system that we saw in the Alpha Footage from Free Radical (Yes Protagonist, I know DICE is doing the work on the actual release, but Free Radical made one hell of an Alpha and had some damned good ideas there.)

I kind of think that using those alpha videos as indication of anything that's to come is a bad idea. I imagine all that got thrown out.

Considering that it's DICE, I'm not too hopeful about this being much more than Battlefield 4 with lasers.

Yeah but Battlefield was essentially Battlefront with Guns in some respect. And it is Star Wars, they all know that they'll be held to a higher standard.

I don't think DICE will mess this up, it's confirmed to be new gen only isn't it? So last gen won't hold it back, so long as that stays true it should be alright...here's hoping they don't release it as a broken game though.

Ground to space combat would be epic.

Maybe they could have modes like Rush in Battlefield where you blow up generators and whatnot on Endor and advance along objectives, ultimately on the Rebel side having to take to space and destroy the Death Star, so you have people weakening it and taking out fighters in space and people inside the Death Star itself sabotaging it.

Things like this would DEFINITELY need 64 players, hopefully DICE could get a decent net code going.

My guess is lasers would be far easier to work than bullets though the engine doesn't have to calculate bullet drop with them, so far as I know and they don't really rapid fire all that much.

The game should be fine...so long as they don't give in to the hype around the game and release it in a broken state, would they dare do that to Star Wars?

From the looks of things, they know better:
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-06-13-star-wars-battlefront-is-dices-interpretation-of-what-battlefront-should-be

The Frostbite Engine is rocking
They're actually apparently very focused on the original trilogy. Which, as one of the rare fans of the prequels, I'm a little sad to see. But on the other hand, the given focus gives a chance for a richer experience. The environments look great, and they've apparently spent a lot of time at ILMs archives getting the real props together. Combined with what your average gaming PC can do (which even as a console gamer, I admit if I HAD a PC that'd be able to max this game out, I'd rock it) I'm very excited.

The only thing that saddens me is that I'm not expecting a lot of stuff from free radicals brain child of Battlefront III coming into the new Battlefront. Which is a shame because, as I keep hinting at they had some damn good ideas.

I'm with Steve on this one, ground to air to Space combat would be epic on a 64 player scale. Maybe with a small squadron of bots? Give it that M.A.G. Type of feel, only with better graphics.

Side note: I feel as if when this drops, DBZF needs a formal clan/guild to rock this s*** with!

They need to combine the best of both BF games first. This means

BF1 Ships on Battlefield
BF1 Detail to Graphics (PS4 version of course)
BF1 Planetary Bonuses
BF2 Space Battles
BF2 Leaders
BF2 Story Mode

New Material:

--If you encounter a Jedi/Sith opponent, I want to be able to fight them like you can in Jedi Outcast or Episode III Revenge of the Sith
-- A Firefight mode would be awesome: you would survive against wave after wave of stormtroopers.
-- Make Any Side Fight Whomever: Rebels vs. CIS, Empire vs. Clones, etc.

As for 3rd person or 1st person, I have always loved 3rd person more for Battlefront even though I generally like 1st person more (Halo, Call of Duty, etc.)
The reason is because in Battlefront, the 1st person always seemed clumsy and awkward. I could barely dodge anything, whereas in 3rd person I could evade far more efficiently (just me?) If they do have 1st person, I would love if they refined it so it feels natural.
We Super Saiyans are in a league of our own.

If our battlefronts were both on the ground and in space at the same time, how would those two locales affect each other? Surface-to-space weapons might be hard to create inside a first person shooter, unless they just make "space" behave the same way as "air" does in the Battlefield/whatever else games. I could see a mechanic whereby destroyed ships come plummeting down to earth (so to speak) and change the landscape/kill people. I guess that be would like Levolution in Battlefield 4.

Another possibility is to have lightsaber combat in the vein of Star Wars: Jedi Outcast; lightsabers aren't all-powerful, but there are many situations where they are an advantage over guns. Then, of course, there'd be sweet lightsaber duels.

They could definitely improve on the space battles in Battlefront 2. The big ships were pretty much just punching bags. It could be interesting if you gave players some limited control over their more destructive capabilities, or give us the possibility of shooting them out of the sky. Of course if you could do that, the space battles would have to be a larger scale.

I have to say, I would prefer the game to be made in the Unreal Engine 4; that sh*t looks awesome. Too bad there are only a couple of (garbage) games out there that use it.

So they're mainly focused on the originals but not entirely right?

I loved playing as Droideka's or the...the ehh..., the shiny silver droids I forget the name.

Hold up

DICE wants to put its own flavour on it. That's the only way we can do it. Hence it's called Star Wars: Battlefront, without a 3 at the end. We want to say it's something new.

That sounds...kind of worrying.
I really hope they don't think "well everyone loves Battlefield so....FPS WITH LAZORS AND STARS WAR"

It's also worrying that the 3 games they're making are first person only(pretty sure Mirrors Edge is) do they have any experience with third person at all? Besides seeing other players.

No more than anything else in sure, but the lost of games on their engine looks like it would support third person. (http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frostbite_(game_engine))
That and no Star Wars game (In recent memory) has been exclusively third person. Either Battlefront, the portables, The Clone Wars, Republic Heroes, the (cancelled) First Assault, Jedi Knight & Outcast, Force Unleashed, etc. If Frostbite can do an RTS, it can handle third person. The camera isn't that big a deal really, your most basic modeling software lets you move the camera. The big deal is... Well I'll say controls. What I'm actually afraid of is having so many types of controls that they wont mesh as well as last time.

Now if I had my way, we'd have Force Unleashed Force Powers (Which would break the game), Some level of Jedi Outcast saber combat (just the style switch, because I do remember some saber stuff in that game being abysmal and glitchy), with Rogue Squadron controls, and... Actually I kinda like Battlefield. Wouldn't mind if the shooting stayed that way. Now I wouldn't be upset if we stuck with the classic battlefront shooting, which was simple and fun. But I feel like Battlefield has some pretty damn tight controls.

Personally I've never been to war, but I still felt like it was me fighting. That and I'm in the minority that plays battlefront first person:p

But having al those different control types might be a little rough on the casual gamer too...

Thoughts?
