I know we have a General Game Topic Thread, but I thought this deserved it's own thing. We know the Playstation 4 is doing amazing, and I applaud Sony for making a 180 from the Playstation 3 launch. Right now the Playstation 4 is the top selling Console and I am truly happy for Sony, but despite it's success... the Company as a whole is doing horrible and they keep losing more Money than they're making. Right now only the Playstation 4 and their Movies is what keeping them a float. But for how long can they keep losing Money and keep their doors open? Something has to give here, either Sony makes a complete turn around and gets themselves out of their Finical mess, or it keeps getting worse and the Sony we know is gone. What do you think is going to happen, do you think Sony will go Bankrupt, do you think they'll become a Software only Company (Which what they talked about last year), or do you think Sony will become a Gaming Console Company? |

Iigh, as you have said. Sony has plans to eventually drop the console business and become a software centric company. (like games and s*** like that) Leaving the only two competitive console makers Nintendo and Microsoft. However, I don't find it to be a bad thing honestly. I find exclusives to hurt consumers rather than help them. With Sony eventually moving over to software only, and given the fact that Sony isn't PC phobic we could be looking at Sony being a Third Party Developer for all consoles/gaming platforms. The only time I've seen that exclusives are a good thing, is if that money actually funds sequels that would've never happened. Think Bayonetta (which is stupid because Bayonetta is one of the best spectacle fighters in the history of ever, yet it didn't sell well. Only Nintendo actually offered the money for a sequel.) I don't think they'd drop consoles, at least not until there's no such thing the PS4 is the first thing to give them any profit in ages. They're not really doing that bad they still have tons of assets to sell before bankruptcy will be an issue they'll probably just become movie and game centric. I wish their phone market would improve though it's really stupid that Apple makes so much money for their inferior products just because...fashion I guess? Apple sells phones with weaker hardware than Xperia's for way more money and people buy them instead of Xperia's... The Xperia line should be doing way better than it is. As for games the PS4 is only just getting started it's not even had many exclusives, nothing big like Uncharted 4 anyway. I don't think exclusives are a bad thing, it's went well for them so far a lot of people went from 360 to PS4 for upcoming games and there are still lots of people who just haven't had the money for the console or are waiting for the better games next year. They could sell of a bunch of assets and just have PlayStation and movies plus maybe phones if people open their eyes to how hilariously bad Apple is. |

I'm sure at the Eleventh Hour Sony will pull some last ditch move to keep them relevant and alive... I'm going to say either a Console only Company or a Software and Movie Company. Either way it's going to be interesting to see how this plays out. @Steve: The last I read they lost 1.1 Billion last year and by March of next year they're expecting a loss of 2.1 Billion, and they're expecting to lose even more money next year too. A lot of this is because of their PC Market and their Smart Phones, they've already sold off their Television Division and they're trying to do the same with their PC, but nobody wants it. |

I think once they stop with computers they'll do much better and if people realize how crappy Apple products are in comparison with phones. PlayStation TV could be good, not sure if it's going to hit off but if so they'll sell a lot more TV's. If they've sold say 15 million PS4's by then and half of them get a Sony TV to go with the box, that's a lot of money. It could still go right for them next year, there's a lot more reason to buy their products especially the PS4 next year. Can see them just becoming about TV's, PlayStation and maybe smartphones soon. |

I'm really surprised they haven't tried some kind of Holiday deal with that... I know a lot of people who would seriously go for it. I agree about the Computer thing, but they can't seem to get rid of their back stock and that's what's really hurting them. I know they're trimming the fat within the company and I'm very happy to see that, because for me as a kid I owned Sony Electronics everything. I had a Sony TV, Walkman, later a Sony CD Player, a Sony Stereo System, a Sony CD Stereo, heck a Playstation 1 is the second Console I ever bought for myself. So I would be very sad if Sony had to close their doors, which is why I've been paying such close attention to this, because I want them to succeed and continue as a Company. |

That's not good, I'm sure Sony was banking on crushing Microsoft on Black Friday. The bright side is the Holiday Season isn't over yet, so Sony still has a very good chance at being on top by Christmas. This is coming from a loyal Microsoft Customer, who's been seriously using their Products for Fourteen Years. I care more about seeing Companies thrive, then stupid Xbox VS. Sony crap, and I feel that's how it should be. |

Yeah... if Sony does indeed become a Software only Company, you know Microsoft would end up with most of the Third Party Games, and probably a good chunk of the First Party ones too. I don't have a problem with competition either, but some of these "fans" take it too far and think each side is stupid just because they prefer the other Console, that gets on my nerves. |

You Traitor!  Seriously, I can too... well, I would look like a complete hypocrite if I said the opposite... especially since I've used so many of Sony's Products. I want an Xbox One and a Playstation 4, there's games on both that I would love to have. But I wonder how Sony is going to bounce back from Black Friday though, because they were pretty far behind on this one, which comes as a shock to me. |

330 dollars or 400 dollars Xbox to PS4, who's going to win? 330 obviously. Bad move by Sony, they thought they could win because of their supposed superior product (I don't know if it isn't or not) but they were wrong. Go cheaper next time. |

Exactly! The Xbox One was the logical choice from a Price point of view. I've worked Retail for Ten Years, and that was a brilliant move to lower the price to 330 Dollars. Some people will call this a desperate move, but from a business and retail perspective, it's not desperate it's very smart and it's a great way to be on top for the Holiday Season. I don't call this desperation in the slightest, sure the Playstation 4 is beating the Xbox One in sales, but this is only the First Year of this Generation, look at the Playstation 3 by the end of the last Generation, sure it was still Number Two but Sony had really closed the gap between them and Microsoft, I wouldn't be surprised if the same happens here with Microsoft. Now, if Microsoft was in the Finical condition Sony is in, then I would call this a desperate move. I will say that I'm glad people here on this Forum can look at this from a non Bias perspective and not be ignorant about it either, I've tried talking about this on other sites and you would think I threatened someones mother... I can't believe Sony and Microsoft Fanboys get so offensive when you bring up something negative about the Company or Console it's self. |
