To be honest, I don't see how Goku is better suited to be a hero. Vegeta has the drive to protect his loved ones to the point where he, the once proud Saiyajin prince, was willing to make a fool of himself by singing and dancing on a stage. Furthermore, Vegeta's potential certainly seems to exceed Goku's as he momentarily surpassed him when Bulma was hit.

Vegeta's potential has always exceeded Goku's, he was just blinded and held back by pride. It's no coincidence that very shortly after completely disregarding his pride in BOG, he gets a massive power boost beyond Goku. The interesting thing about Goku is not that he has more potential than other saiyans, but that he makes to most of what he was born with. He overcomes barriers and always becomes the best he can be.

People are being a bit harsh on Goku now though. He's still a great hero and he does care about his family and friends, it's just his purity makes him naive, just like it always did. He's dangerously optimistic about how everything will always turn out for the best. To be fair, if he and Vegeta both hadn't made so many bad decisions, the Z fighters wouldn't be anywhere near as strong as they are now and would be less prepared to face greater threats that may come in the future.

Definitely not in the Boo saga :p Vegeta who had been brought past his limits was equal to Goku.

Yeah, they still have to unlock that potential through training. Bobidi brought out all the potential in Vegeta that was ready to come out at the time. Goku had his 7 years in other world tapping into his potential whilst Vegeta likely just did what he always does on Earth. Torture himself into getting stronger. My point is that of course different saiyans - like different humans - have different maximum potential but attitude and experiences are much more important in increasing power than anybody's 'birth right'. Which Vegeta only let go of in the Buu saga. Perhaps now - when he wants it the least - he will reap the rewards. At least that's what I'm hoping.

Eh, you could argue Vegeta's true potential couldn't be surfaced by Babidi's magic.

Characters have had potential unlocks before and still get far stronger later on. Gohan had one on Namek but it didn't make him as strong as he was after the Elder Kaioshin had finished with him.

The problem with that is everyone had potential unlocks and cheats for power before Vegeta got his.

Goku, Krillin, Tien, Yamcha, and Chaozu all had sacred water to unlock their potential

Gohan and Krillinngot their potential unlocked by Guru

Piccolo got his potential unlock with Nail

At no point were they ever tapped out

Guys, I said "in the Boo saga". I know potential isn't set in stone, but during that one point in the series, Goku had more.

Who would argue otherwise? The ones that want to satisfy a primal mathematical need? Fools.

It's been a little bit since we've heard anything new from the movie. I wonder if they'll include Fusion again since that seems to be the only route the producers know to make Goten and Trunks resemble someone useful.

You missed my point. Maybe Vegeta's character is overall better, and has better intentions. But the fans have always seen Goku saving the day, not Vegeta. Goku is portraited like that while Vegeta is more of a "I'm just doing it in my type of way", examples Cell arc/Boo arc.

Good for the fans. Vegeta has come a long way since he landed on Earth, and he's certainly more responsible than Goku at this point. Honestly Goku's time should have ended after Cell killed him. It's time the proverbial torch was passed to someone more capable of defending Earth, and that someone is Vegeta.

Goku's time has run its course. There's nothing left for his character except "oh, someone Uber strong? Guess I gotta ditch my family and friends to go fight him." That's all he is now, which isnt a huge departure from what he was throughout the show, but at least he had another layer or two beforehand.

I honestly think BoG went out of it's way to make Goku look bad. At least his mistakes in the Boo saga had good intentions (making kids fight Boo might have been wrong, but his reasoning was somewhat solid). Now he just doesn't seem to give a s*** about anything but having a good fight. He was watching everyone get their a*** kicked, including his sons, and he didn't seem to care at all.

Wait I don't understand. What did goku do in battle of gods that was so bad? He threw away his pride to become a ssj god to fight beerus not just for a good fight but because that was the only way he could stop beerus from destroying the earth. Watching everyone else get beaten up isn't as bad as you think either. Goku already had his a*** beat earlier and knows how strong beerus is so it's not like joining in would do anything
