From what I gather, Freeza was essentially on the ground, hands on the grounds in defeat as Vegeta was about to end him and then...

Freeza: Pscyhe b***!

And essentially just sent the blast right down under Vegeta's nose and blew the planet up.

Is Dark Matter correct on dat notion people who saw da movie?

Was the entire thing to test where goku and vegeta have got to with their training? Why couldn't beerus or whis intervened?

Also, putting aside the fact that vegeta doesn't kill Frieza, is the ending of this movie really that bad? I don't see how it's terrible. I mean Frieza pulling the typical "I'll just blow the f***ing planet up" is there but other than that I don't see how it's that bad

Well, Freeza and Vegeta both get trolled. Freeza in being humiliated three times in a single movie and ultimately not being as hype as everyone thought. Vegeta gets trolled in that he loses to Freeza again.

But that's not my main problem. My main problem is that Whis's retcon powers effectively kid-proof the series. There's little tension when Daddy Whis can just come in and bail them out.

Is it a stretch to say vegeta in a way beat Frieza? I mean he did defeat him he just didn't kill him. He humiliated Frieza

It's kind of invalidated by Freeza killing him just a minute later. Vegeta beat Freeza, but Freeza ends up getting the last laugh(for the moment).

It's kind of like Yamcha and the Saibaman, only in this case, the Saibaman/Freeza survived. Also, Vegeta should have known that Freeza would do this. He's already shown an MO for it. Hell, Goku should have known about it, yet both still played around.

Sort of. Vegeta won the battle, Freeza won the war, and Goku won everything.

I'm not complaining. I'm fine with what I've seen.

Vegeta didn't technically lose since Whis's time travel doesn't create a split in the timeline :p . In all seriousness, I totally understand the disappointment with the ending. It's ultimately pretty contrived. You could have just presented Vegeta the kill, and saved Whis's time travel ability for something else in Super, or better yet, don't reveal that idea at all. The simple mention of this ability essentially eliminated all tension this movie could have offered because we know if Goku or Vegeta f*** up, they get a second chance to do it right. Hell, more like an infinite number of chances, as it appears Whis can use that ability as many times as he wants. In other words, this ending essentially amounts the disappointment of Vegeta fans and a totally predictable ending. The outcomes in this franchise have always been predictable, but how the outcome was determined was always a mystery, which cannot be said for this film. And that in and of itself is kinda disappointing. I for one am not as offended by this ending as others have been, but I agree that it could have been written sooooooooo much better than it was.

I had a thought. Why did Cell decide to self destruct? Why didn't he just do what Freeza did and fire a blast through the Earth when he was on his knees. He'd survive and everyone else would die. Gohan gave him ample opportunity.

I'd imagine it takes quite a bit of power to do something like that going practically unnoticed.
