Perhaps Freeza did his research and found out about Bulma through scouts or other means?

Apparently he says he remembers her. Unless he means remembers hearing about her.

Could a soldier on Namek spotted Bulma and described her for Freeza? Well, that's well complicated for the manga, isn't it?

Maybe Freeza heard about Bulma through Raditz? He is the first Freeza soldier to see Bulma. Probably not, but its possible.

While it does annoy me that he's not approaching new material in a cautious manner, I kinda doubt this is gonna lead to a major controversy.
I don't know. Right now the changes are minor enough that they don't effect much, but I seriously fear that one day he'll say stuff that will really mess up the canon of his manga.

What I don't understand is why he feels the need to make up all this new information when it doesn't really matter. Changing up Boo's history from being Bibidi's creation...to what is clearly an expy of a God of Destruction is just pointless. It doesn't further the story or anything. In fact, Toriyama could say that Bibidi created Boo who went through series of hibernation and destruction, growing steadily more evil until Bibidi could no longer control him. It might be that Bibidi helped to create an artificial God of Destruction.

That would be pretty interesting. It would help further Boo and Bibidi's history without the need to contradict what has already been said. The Boo Arc is in some desperate need of re-writing and I kind of wish Toriyama would do that.

But some of these things are just unnecessary and instead of changing them, he could...as I just showed above...build up on them. He could easily build up on his canon instead of changing it with information that has no impact on the plot, characters or anything else.

Freeza was probably just trying to impress Bulma because she's a slamming hottie and he wouldn't want to offend her by forgetting her.

I don't see what the big deal is. It's such a small inconsistency

I don't think it's the small inconsistencies brought about so far that has people riled, because they're just small inconsistencies that everyone can look past. It's just with the quote that he doesn't give a damn about consistency because he's the author that makes everyone on edge. If he's not going to bother with writing something cohesive that fits within itself, why should we give it the time of day? Granted, we haven't seen what will become of (any possible) future movies or the new Dragon Ball Super, but it should rest in everyone's mind that AT has said that he doesn't care about consistency with old material or perhaps even through the material he's just written.

Okay, after wondering what on earth was going on with the consistency in this film, I now (hopefully) have a definitive answer to calm the storms.

Looking at Volume F, I was curious to see that the line about Bulma having never seen Freeza before was omitted, instead having that line from Freeza talking about seeing Bulma on Namek.

I couldn't imagine how on earth someone could let two contradictory statements remain within the same film. Bulma saying she'd never seen Freeza, only to have him say he remembers her?! That would be ridiculously careless.

Fortunately, my Japanese buddy was seeing the film again yesterday, so I asked him to note what exactly Freeza says. Here's his translation of the conversation:

Bulma: "God, you're persistent, how did you even come back?"
Jaco: "Idiot! You could have found a better way to phrase that!
Freeza: "Oh? Seeing as you know who I am, were you on Namek, too? If so, where is your friend Son Goku?"
"おや?もしかして私の事を知っている所を見るとあなたもナメック星に入らしていたのですか?お友達の孫悟さんは何処でしょうか?"
Bulma: "Wow, you're back for revenge after all this time has passed?!"

Assuming my friend is correct, either Toriyama goofed up and his staff corrected him or Herms' initial translation was wrong. I guess we'll have to wait and see on that one!

Just gonna leave this here

Well that's good. That still leaves the Shunkan Ido inconsistency, though.
