What does Goku know'? His own skills were on par with Roshi despite nebevr actually training seriously in martial arts. He was a prodigy back then himself
It's like some people didn't watch/read the same story. >_<

I think he's talking about Goku's lack of real technique instruction. Roshi never taught him any actual martial arts; the only training he did was about increasing his strength and the like. That being said, it's likely that Popo, Kami and Kaio taught him techniques.

But Goku was still getting into fights constantly, not just sitting on his a***. It's not impossible for a self developed style to appear.

Freeza having decent ki manipulation and rather good skills from just sitting around is silly

I can understand what Toriyama (or Toei) has done. Goku is the face of DragonBall and despite Vegeta's popularity in the West, I believe Goku is the fan favourite in Japan and - surprisingly to me - a lot of people are probably expecting/wanting 'business as usual' with Goku being the saviour. I still can't help but feel disappointed though at the moment (I'll know for sure when I see it).

The 4 months thing still seems unnecessarily short, especially since Freeza doesn't even learn to get rid of the weakness he had on Namek...he's really stupid for that.

Vegeta's ssjg stuff all happens off-screen - seems a bit anti-climactic.

Freeza is never a threat really - he doesn't surpass Goku, Vegeta, Whis or Beerus and Whis can undo any damage he does anyway.

I wanted more character development for Goku and Vegeta (their pride was a major theme of BOG) but they seem to go backwards.

I really wanted a reverse of Namek (and that's what was THOROUGHLY hinted at) where Vegeta saves Goku and is once again the most powerful Z fighter for once - not just him fighting a weakened Freeza for Goku to deliver the final blow anyway. Krillin could have provided Goku with a senzu after Sorbet's sneak attack and he could have dealt with Freeza. Vegeta didn't even need to be there.

No hilarious Goten and Trunks confusion for Freeza.

Freeza doesn't have to get stronger to understand Ki manipulation and martial arts.

So what, did he just sit there doing vision training or something? That seems out of character for someone as paranoid as he is about random legends

I assumed that Freeza's kind understand ki manipulation inherently. No need to train. Majin Boo would also fall under this category.

Majin Boo is a golem, not the same thing.

Also, according to AT, only Freeza and Cold possessed great levels power and cruelty via a mutation. If Freeza's race was so good, I think we would have seen some in Freeza's army, but there are none. Being born with high power doesn't suddenly give Freeza the ability to use Death Saucer and the like

Majin Boo existed since the beginning of the universe; he wasn't created or anything.
Akira Toriyama

Though in the manga Kaiōshin said that Bibidi made him, the truth is that one called “Buu” was not actually created by Bididi, but has existed since time immemorial.

As for Freeza, he could have learned ki techniques just through experience or copying.

Maybe Freeza's infinite empire had access to Matrix like technology with which he could download martial arts knowledge directly into his brain.

Well, Goku learned how to use the Kamehameha just by watching Roshi do it (Tenshinhan as well, iirc), and Vegeta learned how to properly control his own ki and sense other ki simply by realising that it was possible. It might still be a bit of a stretch, but we've seen in the series that characters can learn something just by watching it.

Then why not give his soldiers the same technology so that Dodoria isn't an incompetent slob?

As for learning ki techniques through experience, fine, but how did he get the melee skills to duel Piccolo in hand to hand effectively?

I'm sure he wouldn't count killing millions of people and conquering planets as 'training', so he could've developed them by fighting and killing the inhabitants of whatever planet he was purging.

Frieze is a mutant. Its plausible that as a mutant, he and his father have a higher degree of understanding as it pertains to fighting and the like. We aren't told one way or another if Friezas dan can transform so we can assume his father is born in that one form, build Frieza learns to make lower forms on his own. Frieza was a natural at some things.

Just because comments on his skills being not polished, doesn't mean that he had to spend years to develop them or that Gokus own opinion is the end all. Goku just naturally knew how to fight at the level Roshi did. Vegeta when he and Goku first meet, out matches Goku even before he fully powers up in a hand to hand, and years later he's equally skilled at equal power levels. Nothing is ever said about Vegeta training before he comes to earth, so you can assume he has a natural skill set himself. Look at 17 matching piccolo blow for blow.

Nothing says Frieza had to have a Mr Miagi to fight like he does
