The fire analogy is pretty weak. Honestly, I reckon that's just a coincidence.

Maybe the blue form is like a mixture of ssjg and ssj...although you'd then expect it to be orange.
Nah I reckon it's just a mastered form. I'm kind of disappointed that I've ruined the story for myself but there was no way I could avoid spoilers all the way up until a UK release.

Spoiler: click to toggle The only thing more depressing than a time travel plot is how much people are crying because Vegeta didn't win.
Who the heck expected Vegeta to win? I'd say he's won BOG and this movie in his own right anyway:
In BOG, does the single-handed best against Beerus and is said by Goku to have surpassed Goku himself in power minus the SSG mode.
In this movie: If this plot is to be believed, then has nobody realised this means that Vegeta gets the new God form first? If he suddenly steps up and starts beating Frieza harder than Goku could, this means Vegeta was either stronger in base and was wasting his time (which I doubt against Frieza, a known threat) or that he gets the transformation before Goku does, or at the very least is better with it.
If anything this is just like Bojack unbound, someone else does the fighting, Goku tips the scales and the fight ends. I'd rather this than have Vegeta somehow beat Frieza by himself when even Goku, who he admits many times is stronger than him, is getting beaten to the dirt, and this is a far better ending than having Goku and Frieza fight in the void of space and then suddenly realise that first of all even if he wings Goku is going to suffocate, and secondly that Piccolo is dead, therefore he'd need to find New Namek and use their dragon balls to revive Earth, and I don't even think they can do that again, can they?
Also Whis has been hinted at and suggested to be a time traveller in the past anyway, so I'm not surprised.

Spoiler: click to toggle Not disagreeing with you there. But to be fair, from the look of it, quite a lot of people expected Vegeta to win. Including myself, for a time. This is a rare case that I am glad to have been spoiled, less I be dissapointed during the actual movie.

Spoiler: click to toggle Apparently, Freeza's new form has the same stamina problem as his 100% form on Namek, and Goku only lost to Freeza due to Sorbet's distraction. A fresh Vegeta swooping in and beating on a weaker Freeza doesn't really have the same impact as him having the same performance against a Full-Power Freeza.
What's so bad about this is that Vegeta had Freeza beat. Victory was within his grasp, yet Goku wins again. Apparently, Vegeta died due to their being no atmosphere as well, so his death was horrific.

Spoiler: click to toggle Honesty? I'm a little more peeved that Vegeta dies. I mean, he clearly beats Freeza so I can hardly complain when you think about it, but to have Freeza successfully blow up Earth and kill Vegeta only to have Whis reverse time and have Goku land the finishing blow? That's just a cop-out IMO.

Yup, if you care to know what we know so far, here it is, in a spoiler tag of course:
Spoiler: click to toggle -Vegeta and Goku both seem to achieve the surpassed SSJ God status, which is basically a blue haired SSJ(which can be made out to be a mastered SSJ God if you will) -Vegeta beats Freeza, but Freeza blows up the Earth, killing Vegeta, and Whis rewinds time to allow Goku(whom survived his fight with Freeza thanks to a senzu bean) to land the finishing Kamehameha.

Spoiler: click to toggle You're right about BOG. Whilst Goku did the main lot of fighting, it really did feel like a massive step forward for Vegeta. His sacrifice of pride was immediately rewarded with a massive power boost. I hope this movie continues with that train of thought about Vegeta's pride holding him back less and less. The whole Goku saving the day thing though just seems so unnecessary and pandering to the stereotypical shonen structure. I know most of the movies aren't canon but almost every single one ends with Goku administering the finishing blow. As well as Dragonball, the majority of Z and all of GT. It may not have been canon in some of those instances but if you're a DragonBall fan then you really have seen it all before so many times. I'd really like Goku to at least learn something. Maybe he holds back at first against Freeza and that's why he's beaten and why the planet is destroyed, leading to Whis lecturing him on his casual attitude towards peril. Also, the whole time travel thing as a method of fixing it doesn't seem like a Goku thing, it would have been cool to give that honour to somebody like Krillin, Roshi or Piccolo and they could save the day with a well timed distraction or information rather than Goku going back and brute forcing it.
