I don't think Vegeta is entitled to any shine. He was supposed to be a one-time villain, but AT saw potential in him, so he got a lot more "screen time" than he deserved.

I think he is, because, planned to be a one time villain or not, he ended up becoming the second most important character behind Goku. If there's someone else who should kill Freeza other than protagonist himself it's Vegeta, because
1) Relevance
2) Revenge. For himself AND for his race. Do remember that Goku himself said that Vegeta felt bitter about Freeza's betrayal right after he died. Hence why he was crying 'n ****.

Yes, I posted it, although, I didn't post one with translations. Here are Herms's translations to add to that:
Kanzenshuu

Son Goku: Looks like you really are nothin’ to sneeze at.

Narrator: The overlord Freeza is resurrected!

Tenshinhan: Kikōhō…!

Kuririn: Kienzan…!

Piccolo Makankōsappō…!

Son Gohan: Kyaaaaah…!

Narrator: This is the ultimate Dragon Ball battle!

Freeza: Take this…!

Son Goku: Freezaaaaaa….!

Narrator: Dragon Ball Z: Revival of ‘F’!

Dende can forgive him, why can't you?

Let's not focus too much on Vegeta's character. Most of you think he deserves to be the hero for once, a few of us don't.

I'll agree that this is the perfect opportunity for him to be the hero based on his history with Freeza, but in a general situation Vegeta should play second-fiddle.

Now, let's discuss the movie more without focusing on Vegeta (unless it's necessary, which it will be in many discussions).

But, good sir! This is an important matter that I am committed to being the victor of.

I think I've made a pretty solid case on why I think Vegeta should get this and also in regard to his character. I think everyone else is just a little out there with their thoughts on the matter. But that's just me haha.

This will be a great movie. I think we're in for something really awesome here.

I find Vegeta's fanboys generally annoying (not pointing fingers at anyone in this forum, just on the internet in general), but I still like Vegeta a lot and would love for him to get a big win in the new film and finally get the recognition he deserves for being one of the most hardworking fighters in the entire series. Him being the one to destroy Freeza once and for all would be one of the best resolutions to his character one could wish for. It would make sense according his background, it would dignify his character and ultimately his pride as a saiyan -- which is one of Vegeta's biggest personality traits ever since we've known him, and it would NOT take anything away from Goku at all. Goku would still be indisputable ultimate warrior of DBZ, the face of the franchise, the hero of the show, the number one. It's just a matter of changing up the formula a little and letting someone else take the spotlight for a second. It's happened before with Gohan finishing off Cell, it could happen again.

My Dear Melancholy,

I'm curious. How is Goku any more overconfident than Vegeta? How's that a weakness for Goku? He was cocky only twice in the series. After he killed Picclo and against Beerus(Round 1).

How would killing Freeza do anything for Vegeta but prove that even after all this time, Big Bad Freeza has control over his life and that he needs to kill him to move on?

Vegeta doesn't need to kill Freeza, he already moved on from that.

But I would prefer him to Goku, since it seems their roles are slowly reversing. Goku is becoming more of a jerk and Vegeta is being less uptight

Goku is always a little cocky since he is so willing to fight stronger and stronger opponents. But in the sense tjat Whis says, it's possible that we are talking the here and now. Like, having always won out and now being on a god platform has boosted his ego a little. If fact that actually sounds alright, Goku could use a little push in another direction.

Vegeta on the other hand has accepted Goku as superior, so I think he would have perhaps a bit more acceptance of his limits. Just musing.

Well, I have been saying all along that I think bringing back Freeza is stupid to begin with. We've had enough of Freeza and I just feel like bringing him back with yet another transformation is just silly and redundant at this point. BUT SINCE that whole dynamic is indeed being brought back -- it's happening whether I like it or not -- it's not at all outrageous to assume that it will awaken Vegeta's thirst for revenge.
Big Bad Freeza doesn't only have control over Vegeta's life, but the entire planet. He is supposedly coming back as a threat to all of Earth and its fighters, so it's only natural that it will indeed affect Vegeta who was killed by the hands of Freeza before and is forced to deal with him again.
