His name is Bills.
"Beerus, also known as the God of Destruction Beerus, is the main antagonist in the movie Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods. A powerful, confident, and downright obsessive hothead, he is the God of Destruction within the Seventh Universe and, as such, his occupation is to maintain balance by destroying planets."

^ That's what I'm getting from DBZ's wiki.

His name is irrelevant though. I would sincerely like to know if people were happy to find out that Frieza was going to be the "new" villain. Just to see where the general consensus lies.
Yeah I like it.

I don't get the whole "why bring back an old villain?" complaint.

This is the first time (in canon) an old villain has ever come back to terrorize the z fighters and they might as well give the best one with the most connections to the heroes some glory. How many times has Batman beaten the Joker? Superman stopped Lex Luthor? Spider-man defeated Green Goblin? Yet people aren't shouting down comics for reusing old villains.

Whenever Freeza has been brought back in movies it wasn't AT's idea. Every time he was beaten with no effort, but this time he's actually a challenge to the Zet-senshi. I think this could be a worthy end to a brilliant villain.

I think bringing back Freeza for what looks like a rehashed Freeza saga isn't fun. I'd prefer a new villain, but with the way Beers turned out...

At least we have room for a new villain in movie 3 (if we get one).

I wonder what Freeza has to offer in this new form.

So we actually like the idea of Freeza, the guy with like 5 or 6 transformations who's had what was probably the longest saga on the show and the most screen time of all the villains, as well as one return as Mecha Freeza and a bunch of other non canon returns, PLUS a brother (who is basically Freeza 2.0) appear in multiple movies... we want that guy as the next villain once again after decades since his last fight, but this time looking like he was covered in pee? :w00t: :p

I hope the movie is so amazing that I'm forced to eat my words when I watch it, but as of now, I'm not a fan of the idea.
I don't dislike the idea of bringing back old villains btw. And it's technically not true that that's never happened in canon because Freeza did come back shortly for the Future Trunks' saga. And personally, I didn't think the way his character ended was that outrageous. It created an impact and served to show us fans that DBZ was far from being over and that villains of the level of Freeza were no longer a threat. It was sorta like "see this guy right here that took a zillion episodes to kill? In this new chapter of the show future villains could kill Freeza in a heartbeat. BRACE YOURSELVES FOR WHAT'S TO COME MOTHAFOKAHS!!!". :w00t:
I just feel like if they were to bring an old character back, I'd wish the character wasn't one of the most overused villains in the history of the show.

All imo, obvi.

Freeza was a plot-device when coming to Earth to destroy the humans. Besides, that time his demise was less than satisfying for many.

Freeza is and will always be the most influential villain in the manga (barring Vegeta since he turned good in the end)

There's no denying he is iconic. But sometimes you just don't touch already established icons. It's like going back to some of Leonardo da Vinci's paintings and adding a hipster moustache on them because people aren't satisfied with the lack of swag in his art or something.

Anyway, point is, I'd much rather have a new story with a new villain than a recycled villain who we've seen a lot of already. But to each their own.

Freiza coming back stronger is pretty cool. I've always defended frieza. He wasn't exactly a pushover. I don't think goku could've beat him in the fight honestly. He did beat him but only by wits. I'm glad frieza got a power up. He deserved it. Frieza is and was my favorite villain. Hope this movie kicks butt

Hey, Bulma here!
Just 38 days left until the film’s premiere!
Today we’ve got a comment from the voice of No.18, Miki Itō!

I was quite frankly very happy when it was decided to make this new movie. Twenty years ago when I first got the role of No.18, it was nerve-wracking having to perform alongside all these veteran voice artists. When the series returned with Dragon Ball Kai, it was a pleasure to come back as one of the original TV series cast.

Continuing on with the film Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, I felt from the bottom of my heart that this is a series everyone loves. 18’s appearances were always a bit low-key and understated, but then, I guess that suits her just fine…(laughs)

The feelings and enthusiasm which Toriyama-sensei, us performers, and the staff all have towards Dragon Ball joining together to create this film. I think that Sensei and the performers are connected by invisible thread.

When you see the film, be sure not to miss the scene with Kuririn and me (as my usual demure self)! If everyone supports it, maybe next we can get a soap opera type spin-off like “This Love, Kuririn & No.18″ or something along those lines. I can’t wait for this film to be finished. I’ll see you all at the theater!

I think it's plausible that the main event is between Vegeta and Freeza and with Vegeta coming out on top. We saw that Goku got his butt kicked.

The thing I find interesting is that what he said about Vegeta's power up maybe having something to do with Whis special training.

Yes I'm happy Frieza is back and might reclaim his spot as one of the strongest villains ever. It's what the character deserves after all of the disrespect he had endured in the series as well as in movies.

Thank you!. Easily the best villain in dbz. He was disrespected terribly by his ridiculous death to Trunks.. Hell his family even looked like toys play. Everything we ever thought about Frieza was ripped under him with his end..and to subsequently bring him back over and over ( non cannon ) and treat him like a clown just added more to it. My question has always been. Why give us such a saga only to destroy it's value later?

Beerus bringing Frieza up in BOGs and this movie is Akira Toriyama fixing a mistake and brining a real closure to the best villain in dbz. Thank you Toriyama for not allowing a monster ridiculous new villain to ruin the show. Another broly is the last thing I want to see.

[correct me if I'm wrong], didn't Cold warn Freeza to stay away from Boo and Beers?

If that is correct, what is the relationship between Beers and Freeza? From Battle of Gods, Beers made out as it seems they at least had a conversation. Because Beers asked if Freeza destroyed Planet Vegeta for him and said the next time if they'll meet, he'll destroy him.

If there is some sort of communication between him and Beers, surely then Freeza's knows he's not the strongest in the universe if he had to stay away from Beers.
