Is America really the land of second chances?

"America is the land of the second chance and when the gates of the prison open, the path ahead should lead to a better life." - George W. Bush

Do you think Eric Mathew Frein should get another chance to make his life up after the criminal homicide?

If Bush and McDonnell's statement share the same ideal and value of the American culture, should their words also apply to heinous fugitives as well?

Discuss.

Go grab a felony charge or two and check out your chances of getting a job after that.
Spoiler: good luck on the streets.

Most reputable businesses don't allow felony offenders employment, depending on the type of felony.

Second chance in the land of bureaucracy?? I doubt that.

I think this is trying a little too much to paint America in a bad light. Trying to talk about whether America is the land of second chances and then using a homicidal maniac as the poster child for the debate just is fishing to try and make my country look terrible. Does everybody deserve a chance? That's a line that's talked about all our lives, and everyone always says yes, but the fact is not everyone does. If someone murdered 10 people, they really don't deserve a second chance. If someone committed grand theft auto, then yes, they deserve it. I really don't get the point of this thread, it's quite ridiculous if you ask me.

If you want to discuss how terrible our prison system is and why it makes it so that people will never have a chance at a second chance, then yes that would be more ideal. Discussing whether America is not the land of second chances because a murderer didn't get one is just stupid in my eyes.
