The top gunships of both series take on each other in a head to head fight, who wins? Quaritch is piloting the Dragon and Keyes is piloting the Pelican

Actually they are comparable in size. A Pelican is 30.7 meters long and 10.7 meters tall. Unfortunately, I cannot find the combat and cruising speeds of the Pelican but seeing as it a thruster-based VTOL with no rotors, we can assume that it's forward velocity is likely must faster than the Dragon's

Weird. The Dragon looks a lot bigger. Perspective I guess.

I think the two are roughly evenly matched, the Dragon has more weaponry and armor but is slower.

So it comes to piloting skill, and in that, I'm not sure. I'm not aware of Keyes's best piloting feats, but Quaritch has apparently almost bonded with his Dragon over two decades of use, so he's got experience

True but if we are using the Keyes from Halo CE, he has over thirty years of spatial navigational experience. From Life boats to ships of the line, he has likely piloted every air vehile able to go EVA, which a Pelican can.

His versatility doesn't apply to a single vehicle though, unless they're all very similar in terms of control.

Super Saiyan among Super Saiyans

Keyes should win after a tough battle.

On another note, did anyone think that the Avatar Ships looked a lot like Halo Pelicans and that the Mechs looked a lot like Mechs from the video game Lost Planet? I thought the movie was heavily inspired by video games

The AMP suits are also similar to the Halo exo-suits in the books

And I think it's 50/50

Logically speaking, they both took from Aliens and the drop ship that appeared there as well as much of the weapon designs. Probably a bit from Starship Troopers too, now that I think about it. But regardless, I just remembered (and will need to ask for confirmation in case I remember wrong) that in the Halo book First Strike that a Pelican was recorded at a maximum velocity just under Mach 1 and still having a semblence of manourverability. Presumably, Combat Speed would be between half and two-thirds of that maximum speed, where they would be able to turn, yaw and pitch as they bring guns to bear and accurately fire.

Like I said, the Pelican is faster, but the Dragon has guns and turrets poking from practically every corner of it and can move around a bit easier due to the 4 rotors(on a single axis of course, not in raw turning speed or the like)
