The top gunships of both series take on each other in a head to head fight, who wins? Quaritch is piloting the Dragon and Keyes is piloting the Pelican

Which iteration of the Pelican are we talking about here? Its weaponry changes with each game that comes out.

Each per game gets a shot

Well with Keyes behind the wheel, I gotta put my money on him. He is a prodigy in ships navigation and I doubt that changes much when he drops a couple million in tonnage.

How many weapons does the Pelican have? Because the Dragon was stated to cause the most damage of any human weapon, short of a nuke and could turn an area the size of Manhattan to a wasteland in 30 seconds.

depending on the Pelican iteration, between three and eight weapons systems. Main heavy auto cannons, a couple rotary guns, and the newest ones have a nose mounted Spartan Laser. Many have a rack of missiles as well, which can be outfitted as standard HE, AP or Tac-Nuke warheads.

Welp, the nuke ones outstrip the dragon. What about the rest? The weapons sounds similar to the Dragon's, but the Dragon has more of them

The Spartan Laser is exactly what it sounds like, but it is powerful enough to destroy most Halo vehicles in one shot. About the only things that can survive more than one shot are tanks and only if it hits their heavy armour points. Bypass to the juicy bits and they go boom just as easily. The Rotary and autocannons are quite large for the Pelican, estimated at around .30 to .60 cal in size. They appear to also be loaded with an HE equivalent round as they appear to have a small AoE splash. Either that or the shots are so large their impact leave noticeable shockwaves in the air.

I am inclined to say the Dragon has more ammo and destructive ability, but isn't as agile.

What is the standard armament on the Dragon?
Eight 50 mm Sentry guns
Dozens of missile and rocket pods, including incendiaries and gas bombs
Door gunners using Hydra Cannons(.50 Caliber Uranium Needle Rounds, 6000 RPM)
Armor on par with a tank

Apparently, the Dragon, while slower than the Samsons and Scorpions(helicopters), is still very maneuaverable and much faster than one might think, due to jet engines in the back.

And my mistake, again, according to the book, it is said it can devastate an area the size of Manhattan in 6 seconds. Not wipe off the map, but basically kill 90% of everyone there and leave it weak enough that any amount of infantry can take it down.

I find myself agreeing with you. The Dragon certainly has alot of guns on it, but it sounds like a beast to turn. Seeing as the Pelican is a dropship built with agility in mind, I could see the Pelican Muhammad Ali'ing the Dragon into submission.

Actually, turning is where the Dragon excels. It's got a decent speed, but its agility was always worthy of note, due to its 4 rotors. It can turn around, fall, and rise very quickly. Here's a quote from the book
Quote:

Its standard propulsion system has also been modified, granting it much more forward velocity. The Dragon's original system relied solely on its four rotors for speed, which made it very maneuverable, but unsurprisingly slow. However, jet thrusters have now been added alongside its original four rotors to allow for much higher velocities while moving forward, while maintaining its impressive maneuverability.

The Pelican can probably still out fly it, but it's not like it'll be easily dodging it, even the Samson couldn't do that(worth noting as the missile locks were off at the time and there was a rock in the way along with unfamiliar territory)

I was talking more with zipping in and out of gunsights. From the sounds of things, the Dragon is a helluva lot larger than the Pelican.

How big is the Pelican? The Dragon is 41 meters long and 9 meters tall.

Oh, and apparently, the whole talk about the Dragon's speed referred more to something of its size. It moves at about 140 mph, which is fast, given how massive it is, but probably not as fast as the Pelican

And yeah, the Dragon isn't good with that, but even the cockpit was able to tank a spray from a vulcan cannon
