Hello, well I am turning 22 on the 14th of November so I'd like to treat myself to a new car. I've had a 1998 Honda Civic Si since I was 16. Not because I couldn't afford anything better because my Uncle drove that car and I had very fond memories in it. I wanted that car for nostalgic purposes but I think its time for a change. I'm nearing almost 300k on it..and really the car is barely worth $1200 now. So I've decided to buy a new car for myself as a birthday gift. I've only been working full time as a lawyer for 5 months as I just got my Masters. So I have some cash saved up, around $13,000USD in my chequing account (I don't want to spend savings on the car). Anyways I've been looking at used older Porsches specifically 1999 911s. Their in the 14k to 25k range depending on the milage. My parents will be chipping in some cash to help with the actual purchase of the car (if I do buy it). I've been looking at a black 911 coupe with about 60k on it which is going for 16,000USD my parents say its a decent price but I wanted to know if anyone around here really knew cars to tell me its a good deal. What I'm really worried about is maintenance of the Porsche and insurance... I'm turning 22 this year.. so 22 year old male with a Porsche = huge insurance cost. As for maintenance I know I'm going to have to shell out 2-3k on the car as soon as I get, brakes, oil, clutch etc. But is it a reliable car? Anyone ever owned a Porsche to give me some advice on that? As for insurance and maintenance cost I make $3,200USD a month after rent, utilities and tax is that enough? Any help is appreciated any other car suggestions are welcome l. No American muscle and no Porche Boxers. Oh and I live in Pasadena. Edited by Daniel, Oct 30 2014, 02:37 AM.

Good news. If you buy it all outright in cash, your insurance won't be so bad. Especially if it's an older car (If you want a 90s model, then it's considered older.) Also go here, great resources on car buying. http://www.edmunds.com And don't forget, the strongest weapon you have at a dealer is being able to say "Well, you aren't helping me, I'll take my 13,000 dollar check and go elsewhere. Good bye meatbags." Shop around, price check on Cars.com and autotrader too. If they know you know EXACLTY where to go to get it cheaper, most dealers are smart enough to match it for you. That being said, I think a fair price for both parties on a clean 99 Nine Eleven would be about 12k. |

Damn, that's a freaking nice car. Sorry that I don't have any input, I've been driving for 8 months, what do I know. |
