I'm a veteran Pokemon player, and I was wondering if there was anyone on this forum that is interested in the new remakes?

It truly was a Shawshank redemption

I'm looking forward to them a lot. Me and my friends played the originals a lot during school (it was actually how we met) so I can't wait to see how they handle the remakes. I'm on a Pokemon play-through at the moment, in anticipation of Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire. Just gotta finish Black 2 and Y before the release date!

I'll be getting Alpha Sapphire because Kyogre is a beast.

I have so many good memories from the original Ruby/Sapphire games. I'm incredibly hyped for the new ones and can't wait.

I'm getting the limited edition version of Alpha Sapphire. Kyogre <3

Which starter do you think you'll pick? I used to always pick Mudkip, because Swampert kicks a***, so that'll be my choice.

Mudkip and Cyndaquil are my two favorite starters, so I would definitely be playing Mudkip if I ever got the game. Unfortunately, I don't have any of the newer consoles and am not even sure what console this will be on. I've fallen so behind with that stuff.

Greetings. I will be your waifu this season.

Wasn't much of a fan of the third gen myself the designs were all so...round/curvy.

The massively improved visuals didn't make it a better experience I thought, the Team Magma/Aqua "plot" was fairly lame too.

But I'll probably get Ruby otherwise my 3DS is just going to collect dust until I get Smash Bro's.

When they...inevitably remake the fourth gen, reckon there's gonna be Mega Arceus?

MEGA GOD

Probably huh.
Still enjoy the games mostly due to nostalgia but I lost respect for the series a long time ago the whole "you have to have both games to get all the Pokémon hurr durr" BS has always annoyed me, what if you're some loner kid with no friends to trade with?
Plus all the EV crap what happened to good old fashioned battles now they're math battles...

What I want though is Mega Rayquaza once I get that all is good.
Also why are Mega Latios and Latius both purple? The heck? They don't look different at all due to that.

EVs have been in the game since gen 1 as far as I know, but the way they worked in gens 1 and 2 were different than how it is now. I like them; it adds depth and strategy to the game.

From gen 1 to gen 4, I always picked the fire starter but I got so sick of all these f***ing fire-fighting starters three generations in a row so by gen 5 I just thought f*** that pig. I told myself that I'd pick Sceptile but Mega Sceptile's ability is f***ing useless unless you're in a double battle. I then thought that I'll just use another Mega, but I saw Blaziken in the demo and I ended up liking him again so I'll be going for him.

I would go for Swampert -- his Mega looks abolutely badass -- but everyone seems to be going for him and yea

I still don't see the appeal to having there be actual best Pokémon why can't it be that most Pokémon are somewhat equalized perhaps by tier? To have it set up that one Pokémon can outright beat almost every other, except when the player is stupid and uses terrible moves is dull imo.

It's the same as when in an MMO or something you just copy some dudes ultimate set instead of using Pokémon you actually want to just use the best ones, just bleh.
Find it far more fun to immerse myself and feel like a Pokémon trainer pretty sure none of them give a damn, they don't even seem to be a thing besides in the games.

I long for the day they make Pokémon games that rely on skill so it could be more like the anime/manga where a Squirtle can beat a Venesaur or some s***.

I've never taken part in real competitive battling, just among friends, but from what I know they already have tiers. 'Ubers' are the Legendaries and a couple others, then they have 'overused' and 'underused'. Probably a couple others I'm not aware of. Plus, I'm pretty sure there are strategies out there for 'lesser' Pokemon to beat 'Ubers', with a particular moveset/ability. They were always math battles, you just weren't aware of it in the original games. Any game that uses stats like HP/Attack/Defence/Speed etc are essentially math battles.

Plus, it wouldn't make sense to lose respect for Pokemon now, when one of the issues you had has been pretty much fixed: the online trading introduction means you can be a loner with no friends and just go online and find someone in a similar position, or try your luck in Wondertrade and hope you land a Pokemon from the other game.

Yeah but could they not factor some kind of skill in to it? Most people can just look up the best strategies and EV sets...and there are best ones, you can't win with skill. If someone's stats are better they win unless you get extremely lucky or have something up your sleeve.

Once you get in to battling other players it just loses all it's charm for me.

And there are tiers but there's still Pokémon that will outright win in each tier, it'd be better if when two Pokémon were in a tier they could beat each other provided there were no type advantages.

It's still crappy with that though it is pretty much the same as most of the content being locked away in DLC why do there have to be two separate games at all? It's just a really cheap way to make money and now it seems like they've mostly giving up on having a third game to unite them all like Emerald and Platinum.
It just adds arbitrary difficulty purely to have a pay wall.

Never been a fan of how the games are marketed.

what do you mean equalised by tier?

there are tiers -- unofficial tiers, but tiers nonetheless. check out the smogon community. they have several tiers of pokemon in the competitive metagame: uber, overused, underused, neverused, etc.

doesn't work that way at all. if you think hard enough there's always a way to counter an opposing pokemon and an opposing team.

what i do agree with is when people use the same pokemon and s***.

i dont quite get this. pokemon is based on skill, but you keep talking about how you don't like it. the skill part is based on not only being able to form a team and cover weaknesses and potential holes in your strategy, but also being able to keep your cool in a battle and being able to predict and out-predict your opponent.

that isn't how it works AT ALL. i've played on online simulators and i'm by no means good at this s***, but i've beaten people with strategy even though they had better pokemon; likewise, i've been beaten by people who out-predicted me and were able to destroy me without much effort. just because you can google up a team and a list of EVs doesnt mean you're going to win the battle at all especially if you're up against someone who knows wtf they're doing.

we had a tournament on another forum using an online simulator a few months ago, and peep (from this forum) couldn't be f***ed to make a team so he just used a randomised option, and he destroyed most people he went up against. i think we kept it to UU tier, though. i don't remember.

one thing i have to add is that i wish they mostly kept mega evolutions for pokemon that need a good buff so that they become more viable options. instead they're handing them out like nobody's business to pokemon that are already powerful

Yeah where the f*** are Mega Emolga and Pachirisu. No love for Mega Pikachu either or Mega Raichu since it's not as good if you have light ball, IIRC.

Anyway yeah some smarter players will win but any dumb nut with a computer can just look up the perfect team and beat most people who just play the game with whatever Pokémon they like.

I just wish they made the combat system either less of a calculator battle or a more complex one, instead of Pokémon with attack 100 punching out Pokémon with attack 60 and defence 40 every time.
It'd be great if you could just take control of your Pokémon.
Or if you could aim attacks at specific parts of Pokémon, weak points, stagger them, perhaps it could be randomized like instead of hit or miss sometimes a hit but somewhere the attack doesn't do as much damage etc etc.
