First time I've really thought about this, but I don't laugh at anything really. Even stuff I find funny like Family Guy and stuff. Even tho I think it's funny I can't laugh at it.

Am I defective?

Something about our psych tells us to only laugh when we are around other people, or if we think someone else would find this hilarious. If you're alone watching something, you probably won't laugh. Even though you think its kind of funny.

It truly was a Shawshank redemption

I laugh very occasionally when I'm alone, but a lot when I'm with people (depending on whether I'm with people who are funny of course). So like Ninjaneer said, if you're alone and not laughing, I wouldn't call you defective, it's normal.

Even if you don't laugh in company I wouldn't say that's a bad thing. You've said yourself that you do find things funny, you just don't express that through laughter. It's different sure, but not 'defective'. I'm sure you wouldn't be the only one to do so. I'd only start to worry if you didn't find anything funny at all, because that's probably a symptom of something mentally.

"Course. Doing better next time. That's what life is."

Btw it depends what do you want to achieve "laugh your a*** off" or just a simple weak "laugh" because it really depends

researchers only have theories about laughter; there's nothing conclusive, so not much can really be said. what else can anyone say other than that the OP's not defective?

to expand on my serious, boring answer, laughter probs has some social function. ninjaneer's wrong in that we only laugh when we're other people, because we don't, but laughter, along with smiling and any other visible expressions of emotions, are somewhat contagious and probably helps with positive social interaction due to people's emotional state being more synchronised.

I always laugh louder when I see something in reality, in front of me. Since I have a sense of humor , I can laugh at anything even watching Dr.Phil , lol.

This. Laughing is a very natural part of who I am, so I tend to laugh out loud at things I find funny.

I do tend to laugh more around other people, but even then, very rarely.

It's just strange I guess. I use to laugh a lot as a child IIRC.
