It's stated that King Vegeta sent Tarble to a remote planet because he was a disgrace. In other words, Tarble is a special case. Vegeta clearly has something to gloat about considering he surpassed the strength of every Saiyajin, including his father, when he was just a boy.
Vegeta should have known about this. I don't exactly remember the movie well, but I don't think he was all surprised when he found out Tarble was alive. The movie made it seem like he knew he was alive the whole time.

Yeah, I could imagine Vegeta callously saying "Hmph. I thought you were dead." He doesn't, he says "why are you here?" I think. Which implies he knew he was somewhere. After Vegeta lost his entire species, they came for Kakarot eventually to add to their numbers. Why wouldn't he seek out his brother as well? Especially after he saw how strong a low class like Goku could get, he'd know that Tarble could be a real asset too if a weakling like Goku could. The explanation I arrive at is that Vegeta knew his brother was no fighter, not that he wasn't strong enough.

Tarble's a weak mess. Look at his body. He's barely got any muscle. He can probably lift 100 pounds at most.

1,000,000 at most, and that's after years of running from Abo and Cado-san.
That's overrating him beyond belief.

Why is it so hard to believe that Vegeta is a world class d***, which he is, and probably didn't give too hot slags either way about his possibly dead possibly not brother. For that matter, when would that have come up in conversation?

Alternately this is Dragon Ball. Maybe Vegeta's genre savvy and isn't surprised by the long lost brother thing.

I'm not saying he's not a d***. I'm saying Tarble being weak doesn't explain how arrogant he is in his class system led beliefs. I like the idea of him going "Oh so Akira decided I have a brother...meh."

d*** or not he should've acknowledged there was another saiyan out there when he was going nuts about only him and Goku being the only saiyans that survived.

Instead of racking brains to make up an answer it's probably best to just realize Toei used him as a plot tool in the movie not caring about the consistency with the manga (and who actually cares except for the hardcore fans?).

He could've brought up Tarble during his episodes of disgust regarding Trunks.

Besides, in the actual clip, Vegeta is actually kind of...nice to his brother and his brother's wife. Respectful and everything.

Oh I'm not saying he'd hate them or anything, I just figured since it wasn't pertinent to any situation he probably wouldn't have brought it up. I figured the whole Trunks thing was just him being a little more upset that there was another SUPER SAIYAN that WASNT him, aside for the actual number. He honestly didn't seem that surprised about Paragus and Broly showing up in movie 8. Perhaps he didn't expect him to come back, or may have thought he was destroyed, but given that he knew who Tarble was he wasn't too terribly shocked that he was alive.

I'm going to think of him as non-canon...it makes me feel better.
