I find this pretty shocking and stupid. I can't understand why in this day and age women are being paid less than men for the same achievements. The only one I can sort of understand is women's football and that's because it doesn't have a huge amount of money like the men's game does. I'm not sure what excuse the rest of these sports have. Is it really so hard to write a larger cheque for them? I think there should be more of a fuss kicked up about this. I think it's so stupid.

Two things and if anyone feels offended for what I'm about to say, tough s***, I'm glad.

1. Nobody gives a s*** about women's sports. If people really did, then we'd hear more about women in sports. Got a problem? Sucks, nobody cares.

2. Women's sports don't make enough revenue to be able to pay them handsomely. You want a WNBA player to get paid like LeBron? I bet they make 10% of his contract in revenue league-wide. (Maybe an exaggeration, but the point is that it's impossible to pay women that kind of money.) Got a problem? Again, sucks.

All in all, people who complain about women not getting paid or equal treatments in sports probably don't even f***ing watch them play because they probably think that they play at a worse level than men do. (Truth) And that is the reason why they don't get the money. Nobody cares.

Why am I being so harsh? Well because people who complain about women and sports are just really f***ing annoying, that's why. Sports is the one place where equality should never happen. Sports is the place where discrimination is SUPPOSED to occur. Either you have it or you don't. Fact is, if you have a vagina, you won't be good enough to play like a man who is at the top level. And before you say that's "horrible!" just know that 99% of men don't play professional sports.

Discussion over.

On the PGA Tour, the average winner's check is around 1-1.3 million dollars. On the LPGA tour, it's closer to 250-400k. Why is this? Sponsors of these major events are obviously not spending enough money to pay the athletes. Now let's also keep in mind that male sports are televised more often than female sports (at least from what I've seen). The revenue that male sports bring in is simply higher than what the female revenue is at the moment, so sponsors can't afford to pay them more.

It sucks, yeah, but it's down to us really. If we want women to start making more in the sports world, we need to start actually caring about their sports. And I'm saying "us" in the absolute most general sense. Many people in my city are sports fans, and if you ask them what they are watching, it's always male sports. So if you can convince them to want to watch women's sports instead of male's sports, then females will start to make more cash.

It truly was a Shawshank redemption

Yeah, what Gohan and Super Saiyan said. I'm all for equality if both parties are contributing equally to the job at hand, but in this case that's just not true. Male sports are infinitely more popular than female sports (in the vast majority of cases at least) and that's why the revenue disparity is so big. Then there's also the difference in quality. I can only speak for football and basketball because those are the two sports I watch a lot of, but the difference in ability is enormous. Why would I want to watch the sport I love being played at a poor level when there are world class examples available? It's the same reason I don't watch lower league football, or European basketball. I want to watch the best players and best teams playing against each other.

A different but related question that is more important in my opinion: should governing bodies of male sports spend more time and money on their female counterparts? Helping out with better training facilities, better youth facilities and better advertising would presumably drum up more attention, and therefore more revenue, for female sports. It may also improve the quality. More interest amongst females would lead to a bigger selection of players to choose from. In it's current state, the best female footballer/basketball player etc could be someone who never gave it a shot. Opening up the player pool gives you a better chance at finding that person. Plus, more money would mean the female athletes would be able to make a career out of their sports, and therefore spend more time in training etc.

That being said, sports are generally a male interest; most females I know not only dislike sport, but actively hate it. Women viewers would be the biggest target audience for female sports, and when the majority of your target audience just aren't interested, your viewing figures are gonna be low regardless of quality.

If a female can do a job a male can as well as that male can, I see no reason not to be paid the same amount (and vice versa).

That said, from a profit creation point of view, women in sports generally cannot do the same job as well as a male simply because female sports in general are unpopular among "general audiences" (compared to the male equivalent).

From a competitive point of view, until I see non-gender-defined sports leagues, I don't see a problem. In general, males a physically superior to females, and in most cases this gives them an advantage in any given sport. If there is a female that can best a male at his sport then she should get paid more than him... but until they're directly competing with each other there's no point in considering it.
