![]() No one is home and I can't drive so I can't go to the vet or ask someone to identify it. It's connected to my dog's skin. It's like stuck in a cut/bump on his neck. I'm worried.... I tried pulling it off but it's not budging. I've stopped because he's crying now...Two websites gave me a different answer.. Edited by QueenTD, Oct 27 2014, 08:00 PM.

Yes. That is a tick. Looks like it's been there for a few days to a week also. http://www.humanesociety.org/animals/dogs/tips/getting_ticks_off_dog.html Also, don't worry too much. Wait till the vet is open or get someone to help you. Try not to do it yourself right away. It won't hurt to wait longer to take it off. |

I just got something to pull it out. I then put Vaseline on it. Came straight off. I burnt it in a candle. He's okay now. |

You mean you pulled it out and then burnt the thing or you burnt it to get it out? Because you should get it checked if you just pulled it out, their legs can stick in where they were and cause infections burning them so they jump out is the best home method. |

Well I pulled it out and then dropped it in a candle. He's going to the vet this weekend for his once a year check up. The legs aren't in there.. hopefully. I did put vasline on which made the swells down. |

^If you pull it out first, the head detaches and stays inside the skin. Even though the tick can't suck blood after that, it can cause an infection and get your dog really sick. So pulling it out isn't a good idea. You can use Vaseline to suffocate them because they breathe through their abdomen. Another method is to hold a lighter to their abdomen, and they'll retract out of the skin due to the heat. You can then flush them. You might want to get your dog checked for lyme disease after. I live in New England, which is like tick central. Edited by Ketchup Revenge, Oct 28 2014, 12:15 AM.
