Super Saiyan among Super Saiyans

Check it, this is pretty cool. It dawned on me today. Vegeta is always struggling to pull ahead of Goku. Like these Saiyans, Coke and Pepsi have been archrivals for a long while. ![]() In the past, Pepsi almost won. Pepsi had enough of a lead for Coke to drop Coca Cola and replace it with New Coke. In blind taste tests, New Coke actually was beating Pepsi. ![]() This is like when Toriyama replaced Vegeta with CG Gohan. CG Gohan was beating Goku too, like New Coke was beating Pepsi. ![]() However, Coca Cola fans rose with a vengeance to revive the Coke we all know today. After this uproar, New Coke was discarded, and Coca Cola returned. In the Buu saga, Gohan was downgraded and Vegeta was upgraded to match Goku once again in the Battle of the Super Saiyan 2s.

Just wanted to clarify that the whole "Goku was brought back because of the fans" thing is just a rumor. |

Vegeta's arm is abnormally long in that last picture. |

It's not just a rumor - it's pretty obvious. The fact is, Gohan DID lose a lot of popularity in the Boo saga. He was no longer in the top 5. You see people were saying all the time that Gohan was ruined due to becoming a nerd and the Great Saiyaman. People simply weren't impressed by Gohan, so it's not hard at all to think there were demands to bring Goku back. |

I agree with Hot Cakes, fans clearly disliked Great Saiyaman resulting in decrease at popularity in Gohan's character, you could argue he regained some of his popularity back when he became Mystic Gohan, but he had a great build up and end up getting fodder again.
