yes. go talk to someone you trust or, better yet, see a professional.

also look up cognitive distortions on google. knowing s*** wont fix it but having a little insight can sometimes be a stepping stone to self-help if how youre feeling isnt too severe.

"Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the war room!"

I find that professionals often don't help.
I was depressed for a while, and saw a therapist, but I couldn't help but keep thinking in the back of my head "the only reason why this person is listening to me is because they're getting paid to listen to me".

The way I broke my depression is giving myself a purpose and doing something I enjoyed.
That's really the only way that you're going to help yourself.

Definitely see a professional. A pro may not have been able to help Ketchup Revenge here, but it may do you some good. You got nothing to lose in seeing a professional, getting involved with services, and taking the next step as it occurs. Start by seeing your local doctor and explaining your issues to him/her and your doctor will point you in the right direction.

Good luck!

yeah it doesnt work for everyone so if you do try it then i suggest asking for a trial/discount for the first few sessions or w/e, but ofc it wont help if you dont let it and youre antagonistic towards their efforts.

im sure some do but it's the same w/ any field in existence -- some people are genuinely passionate about w/e field theyre in, while others are in it for the money.

anyway, from what I remember of research, cognitive behavioural therapy's the most effective when it comes to mild to moderate anxiety disorders, depressing, ptsd and s*** like that and is type of therapy w/ most evidence support from research. that's not to say it's a cure-all for everything tho cuz it really isnt and neither is anything else in the mental health field.

I'm not going to pretend to know what depression feels like, for you to hurt yourself like that, it has to be really bad.

My only advice is go for a walk and ask yourself, why do hate yourself, what is it that makes other people dislike you, are in control of things you can change or are you over weight because of eating disorder?

My point is a lot of people fell down and out, if you see other people who's in the same condition (poverty, getting bullied, girlfriend problems, etc) as you or even worst (no home, no legs or arms, etc), you may appreciate yourself more and value the gifts you have.

I've never had to deal with severe depression but I will try to help

Do things to help clear your mind like exercise. I agree with what olliebaba said too.

Going for a walk is always nice and relaxing too

Take a step back think about what is causing your depression. DO NOT start thinking of things just to put yourself down like saying you have this and that wrong with you and my life sucks and I can't do anything about it bla bla bla. Try and find a fix the problem or some way to help deal with it

Maybe look at other people in the world that have it way harder than you. There are people in the world getting killed or dying of starvation. However hard you might think your life is, there are tons of people out there who have it MUCH harder

Instead of hurting yourself, go to the gym and lift weights or something. You'll be doing something benefits you and you'll probably feel good about that. Relieve stress and benefit your health at the gym

This is why people who do not understand mental health SHOULD NOT give advice about the matter.

Depression is not a problem, it's an illness. A treatable illness!!!

See your doctor, right now that is the only person who you should be listening to! People can spout off a million different ways to boost your happiness, but ultimately you'll circle back to where you started because you are not treating your illness.

There is nothing to feel bad about when it comes to having an illness, mate! It's a part of life!!! And when you fall sick, you see a doctor! That's what they're there for.

All of the above is great advice! (:I read one post and skipped everything:)

You're here on a dbz forum because you obviously like/love it. Use the characters as inspiration.

Bardock got blasted by Frieza through time. He appeared with no one around. Yet, a enemy (in his mind) reached out to help him. He repeatedly rejected this person. Eventually he caved and began to realize he may not alone. Eventually he found he was never alone to begin with.

He isolated himself from the most positive person in his life. Once he realized to give him a chance, he became more of the man he was meant to be.

With the right therapy and medication balance, you can treat depression. My sister in law is dealing with severe depression. She checked herself into a mental hospital the other week. Seems to be coping alright for the minute. Anyway don't do nothing. Depression is an illness that needs to be treated and the treatment is different for every person suffering from it. See a doctor, see a psychiatrist, take meds. Do anything you can to fight it but don't do nothing.

I completely disagree. There are plenty of things you could do to better yourself without seeing a doctor, and you shouldn't rely on medication unless you absolutely have to.

All of the advice posted here is great. You can get through it!

Advice is great to give to somebody who is sad. Somebody who is dealing with depression is very different. Depression is now recognised as a medical illness. What happens if you have an infection and you don't treat it?? You only get worse. Depression works in similar ways, only instead of an infection you have a chemical imbalance in the brain which affects the brain's serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine levels and not its producing enough to keep yourself stable. This can be quite serious to your mental well-being! Activities can temporarily stimulate these chemicals, but the stimulation only lasts for as long as the activity lasts. After that, you're back to square one. People who suffer from medical depression actually need medication! It's just the fact of the matter. And as I said, there's no shame in that. If you don't treat the illness, it will only get worse.

Everybody goes through some form of depression at some point in their lives, but there's a difference between going through a state of temporary sadness and clinical depression. I am trained to deal with people who suffer from depression, and I have had many clients come to me who have depression and were self harming and felt like they actually couldn't cope with life anymore and that they wanted to die. I referred them to a doctor and now, thanks to the fact they are treating their illness, they are living very normal and happy lives. There's no shame in seeking professional help when life is getting too much for somebody to cope with. Depression is nothing to be embarrassed about, it's something you must address before you do something to yourself that cant be un-done. If you go for a walk to clear your head, that will help... For a little while! But it won't be treating anything.

So please, if you don't understand mental health, don't give advice on the matter. You can disagree with me all you like, and that's just fine! I don't mind if you don't like what I'm saying. But I understand the illness allot better than the usual Joe. It's what I got my education for.

I have severe depression. I've had it most of my life. It is a mental illness, but it's manageable, and it's relatively common. It's a dark undertone on your life that comes and goes depending on how many distractions you have. Someone else mentioned finding your "purpose" in life. That's important. Let at least one friend know what's going in your life/your head, and it will help a little bit. If you don't have one, well utilising forums isn't the worst thing in the world. Keeping active is really important too. Staring at the ceiling all day is only going to make things worse. I found keeping a regular routine of going to work, gym etc and keeping in contact with friends made me happy - so try that.

Your head is your own worst enemy. You make up worse demons than you will eventually fight. And those you do fight, you can beat with patience, trust, and a bit of faith. It's a Christian philosophy, but it works, believe me. Pain is sometimes the best medicine you can ever get, to make you stronger for something you'll face later. Imo it's all in God's plan and it's incredible but, your choice. I'll give you a prayer though, man.
