American Football is perhaps more popular now in the US than Baseball. Baseball is notorious for being the National pass-time and is still popular, but it seems now that more people watch the Playoffs for Football than they do the Playoffs for Baseball. Down south, they're crazy with football. I'm American and always wondered why it was called Football. It's more related to Rugby than European Football. |

I always thought American football would be better off called tackle ball or something, seeing as how you handle the ball with your hands and tackle the person carrying it waaaaaay more than you use your foot with it. |

if it was renamed to "tackleball" I'd never watch again. And who cares what's its called? It seems to me that only annoying Europeans with a thirst for making their sport look better care. |

You'd never watch it again if the name was changed and then you ask who cares what it's called? |

Purely making a joke about how dumb the idea of that name was. No need to take it so seriously. |

How is it dumb? I think tackleball is much more representative for what the sport is about. King Furry also provided arguments why it would be better, Meanwhile you're just saying "Damn Europeans! I'll never watch it again! RRRGH! Football! Stupid idea!" Maybe instead you could tell us why football is such a good name for the sport. Edited by Ginyu, Sep 29 2014, 08:45 PM.

Tackleball sounds boring. It honestly fits much better but the name sadly is very bad. No offense to the person who thought of the name. |

Tackleball is a stupid name and ask any NFL fan that. And as to why football is such a good name, how the hell should I know. What a dumb question. |

You're not being very helpful. You're not being very friendly either. Football fits better for soccer because you play it with your feet majority of the time. You only score certain points with your foot in american football. Pretty much the entire world calls soccer 'football'. We refer to your sport as "american football". |

You use your foot in both sports, I don't see the point. |

Yeah, It's the technical name is gridiron football because the original field used was like a grid, making it also look like a gridiron, so ta-da, it's called gridiron football. |

And then there's rugby football which is awesome, Australian football, Gaelic football and association Football also known as soccer. None of the names are wrong. It's just the names given to them by the people who played the sports in different regions. |
