Nah it brings a lot of people comfort and peace. I wouldn't want to take the warm feeling it gives some people away.
It also breeds intolerance, bigotry, death, and discrimination. I may be intolerant of religion, but then again, I am also intolerant of discrimination against gays, women, etc... as much as I am intolerant of slicing infants throats... Like a sane person.

And I am quite militant. I suppose it may be quite fascist thinking, but then again, if I am a fascist for being for the fair treatment of all people, then so be it... LOL

'Fair treatment' also involves allowing people to be religious. There are negative aspects of it, quite severe ones; I won't deny that. However, there's no reason to destroy it on a personal level.

I would say the severe negative aspects more than make it a plaque on the Earth and humanity... I mean Nazi Germany had some good aspects, but would you want to be living under Nazisim now?

Fair treatment means allowing people to live without discrimination and fear of being who they are. When said religions hinder that, it is no longer a fair game of fair treatment, just a guise of persecution and rule.

I mean, yeah, someone could quote me now and say I am trying to persecute religion and rule that it should be eliminated, but I would never kill to make that happen. I would never hinder people's rights to be treated civilly. I would never try passing my beliefs as law, and I would never justify the acts of a callous god as good.

I am just speaking my mind here in an open forum, but despite my words, I will never try to make it a reality by taking extreme measures, so me speaking my mind right now will never become a reality. Religion will never die, I know that. Same way hatred, racism, bigotry, and discrimination will never die so long as people keep passing those beliefs onto their children.

Crazy Awesome Legend

Would you outlaw me believing in Terminators and fairies? Ghosts? Santa Clause?

You can't make believing in something illegal. It's not even enforceable.

If you truly believe in that stuff then..... Well, no comment! Say hi to Goku for me, i'm sure he exists too. XD

Good luck with reality is all I have to say. I will keep believing in science, evidence, and reality to keep me sane.

Most Australians are not racist/homophobic bigots at all.
True, but it's that minority that does the most damage. Add to that, the majority doesn't want to get its hands dirty in trying to deal with the problem, and then sweeps the problem under the rug - out of sight, out of mind.

Then when the government tries to do something to address it, the majority cry "nanny state," government's forced to back down or risk looking like a bigger bad guy than it already is, and the cycle continues.
Funnily enough, this is also exactly how it goes in terms of alcohol related violence and crimes in Australia.

We agree fundamentally. That is to say, I also believe that Religion has no place in Politics and the law. If Religion permits people to break the law or has an adverse affect on the creation and implementation of that law, then I do have an issue with it. On a personal level, I have no problem with it. Lots of people find happiness and security in believing in a deity; who am I to crush that? Some people can't comprehend or cope with the concept of there being nothing after death, or there being no sort of higher power. What they want to believe is fine, as long as they're capable of putting it aside when it comes to Politics and Law

For technology, it doesn't really matter in the developed world as they end up getting sold and shared in those places, then countries like China will make their own versions because they can't have "western" tech, but it's pretty silly to say America is more socially advanced. Granted, Australia did elect a moron.

That is ridiculous, Australia has a higher HDI of .933 while the United States has an HDI of .91. Granted really after .9 their is virtually no difference, but for technicalities Australia has a higher standard of living. Their technology is pretty much the same asides from weapons and defense tech where the US obliterates pretty much every country. I'd say Australia is on par with Canada not 50 years behind lmao
